FFS the USA lost the final in OT after being robbed multiple times

It was a great tournament overall, if the USA buries one of those late chances it's an entirely different narrative today. Brady Tkachuk got robbed on an open net, Matthews got robbed twice. USA and American fans should be proud of how their team played, win or lose this tournament was massive for hockey, the NHL and all of us fans.

I already said "congrats on joining a President's trophy team and doing nothing of significance in the Final"

McDavid has dummied him every time they've gone head-to-head and Tkachuk is only known for staged fights and group chats now
Got there because of him lol. Mcdavid didn’t do anything either. He had 2 great games and was a non factor pretty much the entire rest of the series. Mcdavid doesn’t dummy him on cups.

I don't blame Matthew for his desire to play and no player would want to sit this type of game out unless they had two broken legs. The mistake is on Sullivan. He should have talked to Matthew and explain why he was going to go with another healthy player. Canada is a very talented team and you are going to need everyone healthy and playing at their best to have a chance to beat Canada and putting Matthew in really hurt the teams chances. It isn't Matthews fault he got injured but he shouldn't have been in the line up cause he couldn't help the team.

Panthers before Tkachuk trade:

1 Playoff win with the core of Barkov, Ekblad, and formerly Huberdeau
After Tkachuk trade, 7 playoff series wins out of 8 series.

Yea, he was definitely carried by the team he was traded to.

Didn't do anything along the way in the playoffs the past two years.

Dumbass take by but not surprising.

He did (at least) one thing of significance in the Final

Besides the staged fights;) He’s also known for scoring 3 gwg in the ECF vs Carolina

I think selfishness is one way to certainly put it.

Like what Marchand said post game, the Americans like to run their mouths in group games and then Canada takes care of business when it matters most, history shows this clearly. Tkachuk and team US were more occupied with group chats and pre-planning mass fights.

Meanwhile Canada is focused on winning the tourney as a team unit. Lessons to be learned here for sure for USA Hockey, a real back to the drawing board and looking in the mirror moment for the Americans and the US Hockey program here. What will it finally take to win a mens level tournament for the US, 1996 is a long time ago now, certainly a "praying for rain" situation.

are you sure it was not his fault he got injured?

have they disclosed what the injury is?

would not surprise me if MT was injured in his fight vs Hagel in the first US V Can matchup...he did miss a practice after that game and a game against Sweden as well...

does not really matter but how ironic would it be if his injury was from the fight...would be hilarious

The Tkachuk's are great for theatrics and it was really perfect for growing interest in this tournament and game for the US. But the US team blew their load early in the tournament and when the chips are down the experience and maturity of the Canadian team showed up when it mattered most.
All that out of Binnington making a few clutch saves :sarcasm:

Just going to chime in and agree with all of those who have said this is more on the coaching staff than Matthew Tkachuk. The only reason a player cut from competitive cloth is going to want to miss a game like the final of a tournament is if they're dead (and that still might not stop them). It should be on the coaching staff to realize that in a championship final like this, bringing in a healthy player and scratching Matthew Tkachuk likely improves the team.

As opposed to an NHL game, where a player of Matthew Tkachuk's caliber at 75% (I don't know how injured he was/is so I'm making up the 75% part, but you should catch my drift anyway) is still a better option than whatever their 13th forward probably is.

Maybe Mike wasn't part of the group chat :(

I think he may have been dealing with something since Kucherov caught his knee a while back. Could’ve been something happened in the fight, but looked like something went pop when he tried to spinorama shoot on goal, he never even got a real shot off and went right to the bench.
