As I see the Rangers lackluster showing against Boston, and overall decline in play from 2012 I wonder a few things.
1) Obviously the team relative to the 2011 and 2012 still struggles to score. There is a lack of top six consistent goal scoring and not much offensive blue line help, talent.
2) In 2011 and 2012 the Rangers were extremely consistent. Game in and game out you could count on them to show, work hard, play excellent defense, and out grit you.
The past two seasons, this has not been the case. The Rangers have been inconsistent, the defense has made more lapses, and the forechecking/board work has been lacking. They aren't griddy, they sometimes look just downright mediocre dare I say like the Gomez era teams.
This has me thinking, the Rangers truly miss both Dubinsky and Prust. Along with Callahan, these guys were the heart of our team.
I thought the Rangers were becoming like the Bruins, and with Dubi we had our Marchand/Lucic and Prust was our Thornton type-excellent fourth liner.
Since we lost both, it just is staggering how and why the Rangers can't recapture the tremendous work ethic in 2011 and 2012.
I think losing these two, killed the heart of team.
It is understandable needing to get goal scoring with Rick Nash, but couldn't Hags or Del Zotto been moved?
As for Prust, yes his contract was rich, but he never should have left if Dubinsky was going to be traded.
He could have been afforded and all the Asham, Powe, Pyatt's could have not been signed.
Anybody with me on this?
