Did including Toews into Top 100 Players instead of Malkin age well?

Omg Geno has 5 points, let's bump all those threads.

Its Geno's mental inconsistency that has cost him points on the top 100 ladder. When Geno has that "i dont care" expression on his eyes, he also produces only a small pile of hinges on ice. And such stretches can be very long and they are common.

Ludicrous. Absolute nonsense.
The only issue with Geno has been injuries. That he isn't always a great defensive player is true, but whenever given that responsibility and being relied on against strong opponents, he is.

There is a great deal of compare and contrast with Crosby, and while Crosby is and has been better, the difference is always being exaggerated and has a lot to do with deployment (for instance, what D-men plays behind them). When Sid is there, Letang is always with him. Malkin has usually gotten the de facto third pairing, and it makes a difference.

I take Connor, Sid and McKinnon over Malkin today, if the objective is to win today. No other C... and I am uncertain about McKinnon.

I don’t think you can use the Malkin played with talent argument when it comes to Sakic.

I don’t know. It’s hard for me to defend Sakic over Geno when Geno led the league in scoring twice and Sakic never did.

Sakic did finish 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 5th in points against Geno's 1st, 1st, 2nd and 4th. I believe Sakic once finished 2nd behind only Jagr who basically surpassed Joe only because Lemieux came back to boost up Jags.

Malkin has better PPG finish resume already than Sakic has his entire career. Geno has finished top-10 in PPG a marvelous 10 times already against Sakic's 9. Incredibly 6 of those Malkin's top-10 finishes are actually top-3 finishes. Sakic has 3 top-3 PPG finishes. It's safe to say, that Geno is the more skilled offensive threat than Sakic (or Yzerman for that matter).

See I think I’d have Yzerman above Geno. He did it by himself. Obviously it took the team to get him the championship, but Yzerman was one hell of a talent.

What has Sakic done that Malkin hasn’t?

Be a heck of lot healthier for one. Has two great Cup winning playoff runs. A rep for being solid, if not very good defensively.

Maybe Malkin passes him if he was able to put up more full seasons but he is hardly that much better as a player as being made out by the other poster.

I mean Geno basically has done everything Sakic did and more?

If you want to take the "healthy" version of each player, most would take Malkin including myself. All-time rankings are based moreso on what a player was able to accomplish with their talent.

I still can't figure out how Geno was left out. I would love to see all the panelists lists. How can you include Toews and Sundin and not include Geno? I can't damn well understand it.

To get on a top 100 all time you should have some serious hardware, and Malkin does, easily in the upper half for that. Toews at least has some. What is really questionable is guys like Oates, Robitaille, Lemaire, Sundin, Sittler & Salming who don't have any and are there. Shows kind of what a political list it was since a bunch of those guys are now active front office, that plus a lot of Leafs fan service choices..

Malkin doesn't win an Art Ross against Mario/Jagr in '96 nor against Jagr in 2001. Not a very strong argument to make.

Sakic's '01 season matches up well with Malkin's season in 2012, slightly worse offensively but superior defensively.

Neither does Crosby. Does that make Sakic better than Crosby, too?

You really want to use the trophy count as your main argument?

I mean, what are you using to set Malkin and Sakic apart?

Longevity? That’s nice, but Sakic’s longevity didn’t result in anything meaningful aside from a point lead and a marginal at best PPG lead.

And we have no idea what Geno still has left in the tank. He is one year removed from a 98 point season and is absolutely on fire this year.

Toews may have been overrated but it seems like people have gone too far in the other direction. He had a 4 year period where he had 29 points in 22 playoff games and won the Conn Smythe and then for the next three years was around a ppg player who either finished in the top 15 or was on pace to be in the top 15 for points while being nominated one of the very best defensive forwards.

so because he was elite for 4 seasons he's a top 100 player? listen to yourself.
