Did DeBoer just fire himself with the Oettinger fiasco?

Gave up the first two shots on net, I don't necessarily think Dallas would have fared better if they kept Oettinger in. He looked discouraged and yes it's a breakaway but he wasn't competitive enough on that 2nd goal. Stay on the bench like a man, bad look for Oettinger.

DeBoer is like an all-star coach until he gets to the conference finals.

I do think he's had some aging and slower rosters to work with along the way which doesn't help, but to me it's glaring how they always seem to just run out of gas. Coach included.

I think teams have figured out with Oettinger you gotta move the puck quickly and he's vulnerable. Its not like he has a late career Hextall problem of being slow or a bad mover but he simply always seems a second or so late to get in position on cross ice stuff or behind the net passes to the slot. If you just fire and fire at him from prime spots he's gonna stop you more than most goalies but if you force him to have to anticipate or move he seems below average

I like deboer, but man I don’t like that. I get trying to shake the team up after going down 2-0. You’ve got to wake them up (which they did a bit)!but why not put Oettinger back in after the first. You haven’t played Desmithnin 5-6 weeks and you’re tasking him with stopping the oilers?

Dallas is likely going to be a good bit worse next year. Still quite good, but I expect they’re not in the conference finals next year.

DeBoer probably

I don't know if Dallas does it, but they probably should.

From a psychological standpoint, i kinda get what DeBoer was going for. If the boys don't want to play in front of Oettinger, you yank him to try to send a message to them that if you're not going to show up in front of him, then he's not going to be there to bail you out.

The problem is the context; Oettinger got hung out to dry badly on both goals. Perry on the doorstep for the first one with no one within three feet of him. 2nd one Dallas gets absolutely torched in transition leaving Janmark free and clear to bury one.

You could see it after the second one, Oettinger was pissed just from his body language. Straight up looked like a "where the f*** are my teammates?" vibe. You pull him when he's already pissed which isn't going to make things better. And then because he was going to the locker room to obviously simmer down, you pull that stunt where you rip into him, making an already awkward situation far worse. All it does is send a message that "this is your fault and you're going to own it."

Just let him go to the room to cool the f*** off, you idiot. Completely unprofessional and shows a complete lack of situational awareness.

This isn't even taking account it's the 6th straight conference final DeBoer has lost as a coach too.
More than just this game though, Oettinger is the #1 reason the Stars even get here. He's their Conn Smythe winner. He needs to get the benefit of the doubt. Defintion of a 'galaxy brain' move

He also failed to make any adjustments whatsoever, all series. And embarassed himself whining and crying through all his media availabilities.

He had no answers and looked swamped by about the second period of game two.

Knoblauch ran circles around him.
Blaming his goalie when his teams scored a resounding 2 goals in games 2-4

Pete Deboer the kind of guy who if he wasn't coaching an absolutely loaded NHL roster, he'd be riding an electric scooter to 7-11 for breakfast, then riding it to a different 7-11 for lunch and to cash in his scratch and wins.

Probably at peak lunch hour too when everyone else just trying to pay for gas and gtfo.

It sucks especially because all the staff know him at both locations, and he leaves the flat-black bike helmet on in line.

100% agree. I would have left him in to battle because lord knows Casey DeSmith isn't your savior.

DeBoer is cooked but honestly these stars teams aren't great on paper and have punched above their weight for years so i don't get why some people are ripping them so much.

Seguin Benn and Duchene won't cut it they are old af

I Looked at Carolinas roster (stats page) and Dallas, I didn't realize Carolina didnt even have a good team on paper. LIke player for player, Canucks have a stronger team, but we still suck shit, and Carolina won 9 playoff games. more then 28 other teams. Hockey is quite amazing sometimes.

I hope so, I enjoy seeing Debeor get fired. Aside from the fact I wouldn't have hired him to replace Gallant to begin with, I would have fired him for losing to Montreal in the WCF... in the end it worked out for the best as we got Cassidy.
