He sucked. Badly. As evident by the fact he lasted in the NHL like 14 months after he left the Pens. It’s amazing he led any team in points when he would wait 5 seconds to let the other team stand in front of him to shoot.

Well, he was a PP rustler and the leading Pens scorer in 2003/04 allowing us to draft Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby.

Is that why you drug up my name?

Same.

Dick is a reminder of just how truly awful things could be, IMO.

It'd be like if Riikola was our best player.
41 points in 61 games in 02-03 season and 52 points in 80 games 03-04 season. thats great stats. how does a guy who sucks have 2 seasons like that?

The Pens PP was actually pretty good even with those terrible teams. In 03/04, 12 of his 16 goals were on the PP and his ES pts were 14 to 38 power play points.

He was to sniping shin pads as Tyler Kennedy is to sniping goalie’s logos.

To answer OP's question, this is the first time I've thought of Dick Tarnstrom since he got traded and it's probably going to be the last. Farewell.

I remember him being just kind of your typical PMD that managed to land a spot on a top PP unit with a very simple approach of pucks + bodies to the net, which Tarnstrom thrived in because he was good at getting pucks on net quickly.

I recall him taking a lot of quick wristers from the point, that kind of sweeping jai alai get-it-and-get-rid-of-it shot, which is normal now but atypical at the time.

And for the few games Lemieux was in the lineup he had the smarts to read off him.
