According to Dhaliwal this morning on Sportsnet 650
Carolina brought up Demko as being part of trade for Pettersson. Canucks declined. Not sure if that was the snag, but eventually Carolina chose the Rantanen trade over any Pettersson trade.
Now that Canucks have signed Lankinen to a long term deal, this might mean Demko will be available for trade. Highly unlikely it would be for this season, but will Carolina circle back and make an offer at the draft or off-season?
Demko has battled a rare injury in his Popleteus that has caused him to miss the first half of the season. He just started to regain his elite form over the last handful of games posting a .969, 1.000, .971 which included a shutout over the Avalanche. He then had to leave the game vs the Maple Leafs and is not expected to play or practice for at least another 2 weeks. report is soft tissue injury.
I personally think the Canucks will ride with a 1A-1b combo of Demo and Lankinen next season, however, if they made Demko available in the summer, it might be a smart buy low move with a possible massive payoff for any team, especially if Demko plays next year in Vezina form after getting a full off-season to train and recover.
His AAV is 5mil and it expires next year. just turned 29 yr old.
What would a return be from Carolina? Demko can still raise his value with solid play the rest of the season and playoffs if he gets the chance.
