Rumor: Dhaliwal-Canucks to make 1 final push for Brock Boeser before July 1

If I were Boeser I would tell Canucks management to go pound sand with the way he was treated by them. The "passenger" comment and "The offers were crap" would be enough for any player to move on and have a fresh start elsewhere.

This management group does a great job at handcuffing themselves. They should really learn to keep quiet

The cost are just going up and wingers especially RH shots are in demand. But trying to play the pens speed wingers is folly. He is a good shooter and with a very good center can be a nice RW. Teams needing a RW like the Kings certainly will have some interest.

Wouldn't give more than 5 years to Boeser and I'm fairly certain that's exactly where the two sides are at a stalemate.

Boeser knows he can get 7 yrs in free agency; Canucks know Boeser is going to look bad in 4 years time.

There is a very little chance Boeser is a Canuck unless he throws away a couple years of term to stay. And even though the Canucks are depleted of quality forwards I truly belive it's for the better if he goes. Boeser will be a good complimentary scorer on a contending team. In Vancouver where he is relied on to be a top producer he will fail.

He’s a complimentary player with poor speed, poor play making, slightly above average shot and slightly above average rage defence.

He’s a stand up human being but that doesn’t deserve an overpay to keep

One million percent agreed but if your selling Boes you don't tell the hockey world your secrets. This management is responsible for Boes being a depreciated asset.

Boeser turned down a $45M contract? Make him a $50M offer with an 8 year term. Front load it as much as possible. Cap hit is a titch over $6M. That'll suck a bit over the back half of the contract, but won’t be the end of the world. Could get >150 goals out of that. Maybe 200 if he can find his 40 goal form, though that’s a stretch. With the way that cap is moving, seems like a worthwhile spend if goal is to retain Hughes.

Boesers current deal has a cap hit of $6.65m. I don't see why he would sign a deal that pays him less.

That’s a good point. I wonder if players have ego about cap hits like that. $56M then? $7M cap hit. I wonder how much of that overall total they could cram into the first 5 years of the deal.

Vancouver is the craziest place to play in the NHL. Players love playing for the city and fans, and historically, the organization has always been known to treat players extremely well.

Unfortunately the Vancouver media is responsible for many players no longer wanting anything to do with playing there. They just can’t help themselves from creating this soap opera atmosphere.

Boeser is no different. It’s just not worth it anymore. He’s been put through the ringer. It’s hard to imagine he won’t have enough interest at the dollars he’s looking for, to walk away. It’s the ONLY way he returns. If the money they’re offering, or close to it, just isn’t there anywhere else.

Aren’t all Canadian markets fishbowls though?
Fans out here love Boeser. I think the media treat him well too. He’s respected and liked.
This love of Boeser by the fans here is why (imo) Van management floated they are making another run at signing him. I don’t think they truly intend to keep Boeser. This is propaganda to appease the fan base. It’s much like with Tocchet. JR announced publicly the club made the biggest offer ever for a coach, while knowing full well it would be 15 million short of what Tocchet was going to get from another club. Imo JR knew Tocchet was leaving, and was providing the excuse, “We made an excellent offer; it’s him, not us”
Same here with Boeser. “It’s him; not us”.

I think he’s done that enough with his play. This was a perfect year for him to excel and show what he could do with the mass injuries, and he still failed to step up.

He is slow, doesn't drive a line. Good in front of the net. He just needs a set up man to pp in goals like JT Miller gave him. He is a good complimentary player.
And good in the playoffs too. although that’s a limited sample, he seems to have playoff dna. Still 50 million is a lot for his player profile.

Would have needed to eat KK’s contract as part of that.
KK is complete trash. Why would Vancouver trade a UFA for a cap dump? That's why they didn't trade him to Canes. Canes better off to just buyout KK instead of trading him because they would have to get a cap dump in return. No one is dumb to trade for KK, a mediocre 3rd line center making almost 5 mill for many years

I think it was reported as KK + 1st for Brock and one of our top prospects (Lekk or Williander).

Allegedly, nobody else offered anything that included a first. Had a 2nd on the table from FLA but that got pulled when they got Marchand.

Honestly not sure how hot the market will be for UFA Boeser, would prefer the Canucks to take a wait and see approach on this one.
Wow that's worst than I thought. Canes GM must be playing too much EA NHL 2025 game. No wonder Alvin laughed at Boeser return.

they're a bigger joke than Benning. Good riddance, someone take the mic away from Rutherford. Good f in riddance. Whatever leverage we "might" have is all gone.

boeser is signing in columbus. i guarantee it
some of us think he's going back to Minnesota close to his family. Which is fine. His choice. He seems more like a family guy. hes the type that might turn down money to stay closer to home. Best of luck to him if he goes. Will miss him.

The Good News: Management is circling back and preparing another offer.

The Bad News: Not because they have a plan, but because they just realized the UFA market costs are going up, up, up. But being disrespectful of your own players in public is never a good look, to either maximize their value in a trade nor to resign them. They're still baffled by the revolutionary idea that to re-sign even your own UFAs, you might need to offer them a deal that isn’t insulting.

Watch them make a last minute failed attempt to match his other offers after he has already committed to leave.

This is the Zadorov story all over again.
I wouldn't want Boeser for 7 year 8 or 9 mil per. That's is just another bad signing. Rather do trades if UFA market is terrible.

Don't care about Boeser now that Miller is gone. He won't get much more than what Canucks offered.

If they can get him signed to a deal that's around his current cap hit and doesn't include max term, i guess it's fine. I just don't think you can spend much more than that on a guy who is basically a "elite complementary scoring winger" and contributes practically nothing at all to the game beyond that offensive production. He's slow, not physical, defensively mediocre at best, and inconsistent with the offense that he does bring to the table...largely dependent on having a play carrying centerman to be productive, and a smoothly operating powerplay run by others to pad out his stats. You simply cannot have success while paying a coattails guy like that "cornerstone play driver" type money...unless you've got some other absolute steal ELC type contracts on impact guys elsewhere.

I don't doubt that he could be extremely productive as a top line winger on a good team for a number of years. I just don't know that Vancouver is in a position to be that team, and i don't like the term that will likely be attached to this deal and what sort of player he'll be by the end of it. But on the flip side...if he does walk, Canucks will have ~2 Top-6 Forwards under contract...and that's also kind of bad. So i get where they'd make a last ditch push to try to get something done.
