Could Levi pull an Adam Fox by demanding to play for his hometown Montreal? A lot of Northeastern connections there too.

Levi has been patient with his development.

But, the Sabres own his NHL rights until August 15, 2025. I doubt he stays two more years at Northeastern after this season.

All expectations are that he signs his ELC with Buffalo after Northeastern's 22-23 season is complete.

You don't think he sees the opportunity he has here with what is shaping up to be a very solid team by the time the crease is his??

you weren't catching pucks that were coming off sticks that are now built to act like slingshots.
True Mogilny, very true.

However, we didn't fill up half the net either.

Horse hair goalie pads; heavy when saturated.

Less chest and arm protection than forwards have these days.

Fiberglass masks that made a noise and vibration when struck with a puck that can't be put into words; you had to experience it to know it...

And 5 mile walks to the rink uphill both ways!:DD

And while not everyone could fire the puck like todays players, there were still those who could shoot with a wooden stick with today's velocity.

Bobby Hull with a composite stick would have killed people......:eek3:

Isn't it 2024? His freshman season didn't count? If it's 2025, yeah it's probably too long

Which given how NEU has improved may be so late in the year yet there are three games after the Frozen Four completes which could easily allow him to play a game and burn that ELC year. Starting the contract clock ticking is not something the Habs can offer, let alone waiting 2 more years. In Buffalo, he has the opportunity not only of the position being wide open but also could be on his SECOND contract at the start of his first if he waits to go somewhere else.

Plus he's occasionally active on Instagram following what the Sabres are doing so he seems invested in the team already.

CapFriendly says 2025:

Even if it were Aug 2024, I doubt he goes back to Northeastern for another year and pushes his move to the pro game another season.

He was ready to go pro this past summer.
How long his rights are held depends on how long he remains in school, which is largely true for all college players. If he were to remain in school past this season, and then leave following the completion of his season in the spring of '24, then he could become a free agent on June 1, 2024, if he so desired. If he remains in school after that, the Sabres would retain his rights as long as his college eligibility lasts.

However, I don't seriously expect him to return to school after this season.

I'd give that about a 0.004% chance of happening. Levi is outwardly very enthusiastic about becoming a Sabre. 3 minutes scrolling through any of his social media accounts could've answered that question for you.
Doesn’t even need to work that hard. The fact that Buffalo fans, who have been burned by this before…and are preparing to get burned by this again, twice…are saying “ nah no worries on this one” beats all.

It's a huge difference in stick tech. I upgraded to a semi pro stick recently and was immediately struck by how fast and accurate I was. With no practice. Put Connor McDavid out wearing Wayne Gretzky era gear these days and he'd get clowned.
