No we won’t. You’re almost certainly wrong and them picking someone else wouldn’t prove that he wasn’t on their board. I think Slafkovsky is the most likely but Cooley is certainly a consideration.
Now let me ask YOU a question that was asked of him :

How would YOU know that Cooley is certainly a consideration when, in your own words, we don't really know what Fitz and management are thinking?

It goes both ways...

All we're doing right now is speculating like hell (we're bored...lol) as to what will happen.

But all signs are pointing to Slaf at #2 and while it certainly *could* be a possibility that Cooley is on their radar, I don't think we'd ever find out once Slaf is drafted.

I agree that he probably won’t be. But you saying he’s definitely not on our board is just dumb.

If the Devils scouts like him more than Slafkovsky and think he is a better prospect than it is possible that he would be the pick. It’s unlikely but possible.

There are NHL scouts that have Cooley ranked at #1. If that’s 1 or 2 of our scouts and/or Fitz than Cooley could very easily be the pick.
Your opinion of him doesn’t trump that reality at all.
With all due respect, my friend, If OUR scouts ranked him at #1, they need to be fired.

No way in hell Cooley is better than Slaf.

No...f'n...way.

He almost certainly is. Why?
Because he is widely considered a top 2 or 3 prospect and has even been discussed as challenging Wright.

Fitz has said they’re looking at multiple different players in different positions. I think it’s a very fair assumption that they would be looking at and considering the C who is considered a top 3 pick in this draft by consensus.

Saying they 100% aren’t and that he’s not even on their board is ridiculous.

I just hope Cooley isn't the guy we all scoff at being a potential top selection that does turn out to be the stud of the draft (i.e. Makar)

I mean it's not a similar situation. This would be much worse since Cooley's a legit option at 2. Almost no one would've taken Makar at 1 in 2017. I don't care about how it looks in hindsight if it wasn't a real option at the time.

I like Slafkovsky more. But that doesn’t matter. There are scouts and NHL scouts that like Cooley more. You can’t really say they should be fired because there’s a legitimate chance he turns out better and it’s nothing more than a difference in opinion. I personally think Slafkovsky is more likely but everyone has different opinions and there is a lot of people who feel as strongly in the opposite way about Cooley vs Slafkovsky.

So I haven't been here in a few days. Why are people acting like the guy unanimously ranked 2/3 is not an option at 2?

Slaf keeps it up the rest of the tournament and I bump him into the group I'd have no issue with being picked. I needed a great tournament in both play and production. It's been there so far. I'm also not really all that into Nemec at 2.

Guys, we're definitely taking Jiricek.

Why? Because I said so. That's absolutely the reality. Taking Slaf is just not gonna happen. Money to the bank. It won't happen. We already have wingers in the system, we don't need another one, especially one that plays in such a weak league. He's big and his skating stride is super awkward - not even one spinaroma in the tournament! - and he doesn't use his slapshot at all, plus PK will be gone and can't give him pointers. He's got size, but you can find guys with size elsewhere in the draft. He's definitely not on our board, Castron is my landlord and said as much without saying as much while we locked eyes in the driveway. We'll interview the kid for the purposes of fooling the Deep State (aka Kraken) but really David's the guy, I mean how he cannot be. He's big, RHD, he's got a slapper (YES) and he's Czech just like Patty. Where else are you gonna find that in the draft? Get your heads out of your asses, stop talking about Slaf. Like at all. I bet you my 1998 Fallingwater LEGO set in mint condition, unopened, that David Jiricek is a Devil on draft day.

And saying that he IS on their board is just as ridiculous because we. just. don't. know.

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

(and for the record, i did not say Cooley was 100% not on their board. That was that other person you were talking to)

There's a better chance I win the Mega-Millions jackpot tomorrow.

Doesn't mean it'll happen. :dunno:

And I had wrote/posted somewhere that Slaf would have to bomb....I mean completely CRAP the bed for Cooley to even be a consideration at #2 (and that's if he is on the Devils Scouts board of players they want).

Hell, for all we know, the Devils could just trade down with Arizona or Seattle, and just take one of the Golden-Boys D-men everyone is somehow enamored with for some reason.

IMO the biggest worry now is that Slafkovsky doesn't make it to the 2nd pick.
Yeah...instead the Devils end up having to "settle" for SHANE F'N WRIGHT.

Oh woe is us. 😏

Kakko was rushed imo. I’d give Slaf 9 games and if he doesn’t look comfortable, give him the rantanen treatment. A year in the AHL doesn’t hurt anyone

Marty had said that the preference is to not rush the prospects which is what I hope to see with Slaf.

Give him the 9 games to get him a taste of the NHL, then send him to the AHL to start honing his skills and get used to the North-American style.

Hey, I'll take that. At this point, I view Wright falling in somewhere between a Nico Hischier and Nick Suzuki type player - still a very good outcome for the Devils.

I think Slafv has unicorn upside but the Devils are in a great spot regardless.

Would the Devils even take Wright in that scenario? I'm not so sure.

Maybe I’m not recalling this correctly but before the lotto win , some of us were disappointed that there would be no way Slafkovsky would be there at 5/6 . We win the lotto , pick 2 , now people are unsure if we should take him and go Cooley instead ?
We were taking about maybe , hopefully , one of the D would still be there, or maybe trading down to take Cutter Gauthier … a “ power forward “ . Now we have the chance to draft the best winger in the draft and there’s talk to take a C instead ? I don’t get it .
Take Slafkovsky and don’t look back . It’s a miracle we even have the opportunity to select him .

Would the Devils even take Wright in that scenario? I'm not so sure.
Imagine if we win the first pick ? All our heads would have exploded by now .

I see the majority are on team Slafkovsky now. If Montreal takes him I contemplate trading down.

Contemplating is good but the two D-men (Jiricek and Nemec) haven't exactly been doing so good lately as far as raising their stock.

I would be pretty hesitant to trade down UNLESS Arizona comes at Fitz with an absolutely MASSIVE Overpayment.

And even then, I'd still have to think about it because this is Shane Wright, not Michael McLeod here. lol

Would the Devils even take Wright in that scenario? I'm not so sure.
Of course they would.

He's the 1b (if Slaf hasn't already overtaken him as a Draft pick) in the Draft.

No reason for Fitz not to draft him unless Arizona came at him with an insane overpayment.
