Bring Antti Raanta over from Finland to replace Marty. He just won the cup over here and was named the MVP of the season. Undrafted, born 1989.

DeBoer said it's "premature" to say for sure right now, but "it looks like" Gelinas is an NHL defenseman.

- No way we miss the playoffs in a 82 games season with Marty and Kovy healthy. What is our record with both healthy already ?
- Chemistry everywhere, we've finally found Ilya's center in Andrei Loki Lokti Loktionov. Kid's going to center Kovy fo years hopefully.
- I wanted him out previously but the last few weeks proved me wrong, Baby Gio is playing like a legit NHL player. He's been great lately.
- Volchenkov played great tonight, he was moving his feet like he never did before.
- Zajac is back to his former-self. I'm not worried for his future.
- I'll say it again : Gelinas's got everything to be a legit puck mover in the big league. His game is so likely to translate well in the NHL moreover.Kid was poised tonight, really relaxed. You couldn't say it was 1st NHL game and he's going to be great player for us.

Ps: How the **** Loki has not been credited with a goal on the breakaway ??? May be wrong but I was sure he redirected Kovy's pass.

Agreed on all accounts.

I'm really happy Gelinas looks close.

so i didnt see the game, was Pittsburgh mailing it in or did we actually beat them?

Elias admitted Pens had nothing to play for. "You just go through the game not to get hurt and make sure that you’re fine for the playoffs"

Trying to temper expectations after one game, but man, Gelinas was calm and poised. And that dude is ****ing huge. Very smooth skater...

There's absolutely no reason, other then financial of course, for us not to amnesty Volch and give Gélinas his spot.

DeBoer planned to keep Gelinas away from Malkin early in game, but ended up against him quite a bit.

DeBoer on Gelinas playing vs. Malkin: "I think Scotty (Stevens) believes in throwing them right into the fire. He did a good job."

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 9m
Kovalchuk: "I think overall with the injuries and everything this was probably my worst season of my career."

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 8m
Kovalchuk: "It’s not easy and now with a lot of guys going to be unrestricted free agents, I don’t know what’s going to happen next year."

Kovy wants out maaan

So sounds like Gelinas will be the 7th Dman next year meaning 2 guys have to go and Kovy wants greener pastures. We've made the playoffs once since Kovy signed that massive contract - wonder if he regrets it now?

- Zid walks
- Tallinder traded
- Kovy amnesty buy out. :sarcasm:

That could be a shock for his teammates and Peter Deboer is still playing him a lot.

Forget the buy-out.

DeBoer will never "alienanate" his veterans in favour of rookies, that much we already know.

Lou is handing Pete a ****ed up situation and our coach has to make the best of it. It's up to Lou to hand him a proper roster and having 8 caliber NHL d-men that he can pick from is just opposite of that.

Pete is stuck in a rough spot. He either plays Larsson and Fayne the entire season but has to healthy scratch Tallinder and Volchenkov, who are making just a little more then 7M$ combined.

That would look real bad on Lou and would probably piss off our owner even more for writting big fat checks to 2 guys who aren't even helping the team.

Again, this is on Lou and not our coach.

Deboer could've sent Lou a message if he wanted Volch out, I believe. And that clearly is not the case, Volchenkov has been playing quite a lot this season.

For better or worse, PDB just likes to have Anton on his team IMO.

My biggest knock on Urbom is that he looks overly nervous and afraid to shoot and so on... Gelinas didn't look like that at all. It really looked like it was his 10th-15th game of the year.

Volch played 20 minutes last game had an assist and was solid. Get prepared guys, he's not being bought out. The year after I could see. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just my opinion. So get the pitchforks out.

He seems to have a game like this once every 15 games or so. Might be enough to keep him around. :dunno:

You have to wonder if it's really money well spent though. :shakehead

Great we won, so why don't I feel so happy? Here's why: Flyers win and Rangers clinch. Rangers having nothing to play for. Fleury has become average at best, the Rangers can beat them in the first round. I doubt they start Lundqvist tomorrow and I think the Devils will win. They think they have something to prove. What that is I don't know because if you talk about pride, I say they're out and the Rangers are in. :shakehead

P.S. Gelinas looked good.....Thank God

DeBoer isn't sending anything to Lou other then flowers and a box of chocolat

I don't see how Pete can have the balls to send his boss a message, when knowing this place is a revolving door for head coach's over the past decade.

By sending a message to his primary boss (Lou), he'd be sending a message to the boss of his boss (JVB) and if he wants to keep his job as our HC, I think Pete will just sit tight and go with the players that's been given to him.

He doesn't have the same track record as Lemaire to just walk up to Lou and say "Look, I need this certain type of player and I have no intention on utilising player x, y, z cause they don't fit my system".

Just can't see that happening.
