The record since NYE is really brutal reading.

Beyond pathetic how bad they have been. Shit defensively, abhorrent offensively.

Incredibly lucky that the East is as bad as it is.
Management (Fitz or whoever) needs to be proactive this summer and not just write this disaster off to Jack and others getting injured.

If they think everybody coming back healthy will make us a contender next year then they have another thing coming.

We had excellent health luck until about late January or whenever Nico got hurt and missed a few games.

Make no mistake, the injuries will be the narrative.

It does hold some water. Losing Hughes, Hamilton, Siegs and Markstrom/Nico for a stretch is horrible shitty lucky. But it doesn't paint the whole picture.

Serious teams don't lose to San Jose (twice), Anaheim, Flyers (twice) and get absolutely blown out by the old ass Penguins. There have been other shit losses, but those results really stick out given their relative health at the time.

We really have to be in throw that damn curse into the damn pond mode with Nemec.

DeBoer would have beat the shit out of Larsson and left him laying in the street without calling an ambulance if he were as bad back then as Nemec has been this year.
It's honestly bizarre how bad he's been this year. Hopefully it's just a really bad case of a sophomore slump. I find it hard to believe the player he looked like last year was just a mirage. I just don't know if it's gonna happen for him with us given the expectations and numbers game on the right side of the defense. It would suck to trade him and then watch him become a top 4 or top pairing guy for the next decade somewhere else.

Why don't I read any Keefe criticism here? Is he untouchable?
Keefe is not with out faults, but I really do think he has been handed a bad roster. The bottom 6 is garbage and the likes of Noesen and Palat should not being playing top 6 minutes, but they are kinda forced to.

I don’t mind our top 6 D when healthy, but the depth is very bad when injuries hit.

I give Keefe a pass because I do believe he has improved the team from Ruff. Maybe that is coming off a low base. I want to give Keefe more time if we can add more talent to the team and a competent bottom 6. Not sure I want to give Fitzgerald more time.

I mean again, the warts were there from opening week/month. They also don't finish chances at a good rate, most of their goal scoring this year came from shooting benders. Noesen/Nico/Cotter early on, then in December they decide to be the 95 Devils, came back from Christmas break and went back to the team from the first 2 months but Markstrom played well until 4 Nations and we're basically around this time period. They're a flawed team this year, it is what it is. Management probably has one more offseason due to them making the playoffs due to the horrendous nature of the East + them banking wins early enough

They had issues when they were healthy, but missing those players makes it harder to work through or address the issues.

Hurt derailed his camp/preseason, got outplayed by a guy who was originally supposed to be a 7D who's parlayed a very good season for the majority into a long term deal. He knows he's on the outs in NJ most likely so he's probably pressing to show other teams that he belongs and it's causing more awfulness from Nemec

Well, a lot of teams lose to those shit teams too and those shit teams are really the only teams we’ve been beating since January, but the flaws were definitely there from the beginning when the team seemed to be getting shutout almost every time they lost in regulation for quite a stretch there.

He’s only been here for a minute.

The other douche bag has been here as THE guy for 5 years and the second in command for 10 years now.

We just fired a coach. General manager should go before another head coach. Unless it’s several years from now and the team has been successful but just can’t get it done in the playoffs or something. Then you can fire the head coach without a change upstairs.

I do wonder if Keefe’s system will sandbag us, but his teams never had trouble lighting it up in Toronto.

Keefe also deserves blame for leaning on Markstrom and shutting down Allen’s good games with another Markstrom start since he came back from injury. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is Allen’s second to last game of the season.

There’s no way we’re winning a round.

We’ve won three games against playoff teams in the last 31 games. Can you seriously see us beating a playoff team 4 times in 7 games?

If it’s any consolation, this team showed even with Jack, Dougie and Siegs that they weren’t winning a round this year for the couple of months before they were injured.

The team wasn’t constructed well enough by the people in charge.
Meh , they might have won a round or two if they were playing like they were pre-Christmas. That’s what’s so frustrating. The way they collapsed even when healthy. It didn’t make any sense how they went from looking like a wagon , to having one of the worst records in the league since Christmas break

I think Keefe thinks he HAS TO get Markstrom ready for playoffs because he knows the only hope in hell we have is if we lock it down defensively as best as we can and hope Marky steals us a couple games . He has the ability to steal some games , just ….. not right now … he has to get going and that’s what Keefe is trying to do .

This team hasn’t won a game they weren’t supposed to in months.

I think they’ve beaten three playoff teams in the last 30 games. I’m pretty sure it’s 31.

Columbus those two times and Edmonton.

Boston may have technically been in a playoff spot when we beat them in January but only on a technicality due to games played.

Last win against a team currently in the playoffs before all of that was against the Lightning on a 4 on 3 PP goal in OT back on January 12th.
God that's just really sad. This team's first half of the season looks more and more like a fluke as each day passes. The coaching staff as well.

This summer, the devils should trade Jack Hughes. He's got a team friendly contract, tons of skills, over a point per game player. He's only 23.

So why trade him? He's fragile. Where is he? They would a ton of assets for him. Can he play 82 games? What's his track record ? They may be able to dump a bad contract or two (Palat, Haula).
Your team does not get better trading a top 10 player. You are going to trade Jack so you can dump a couple contracts, one with only one year left and the other with only 2 years left? That just ridiculous.

Hey man this isn’t Facebook, you might be lost.
