Now we just have to get rid of Dawson Mercer and Kevin Bahl, and we'll be rid of all the underwhelming returns on a pending UFA.
Yes, Bahl is really someone to champion. Bahl sucks. He's the next coming of Steve Santini. Nick Merkley is probably the second best thing to come out of that deal, as sad as that is.

Mukhamadullin (can't spell his name dammit) has nothing to do with the Hall trade.

Never mind, you went back and edited it.

Posts like these are my favorite during the trade deadline and free agency signing periods... how do you know we weren't?
Seriously. Especially if you look at the return where Wild got a Siegenthaler-lite.

This board would’ve erupted in anger if the Devils traded Siegenthaler to address the temporary goalie issue.

Also it’s worth mentioning the Devils can still trade for a goalie post-deadline. Just would leave them ineligible for playoffs, but not like that will matter. They could technically do the same thing with signing a KHL goalie if they want to give them a trial run to end the year.

Brooklyn via NJ, like the Nets
In that sense it worked out for us, but I always thought we could have gotten one NHL ready player out of it, which none of the guys are.

And Bahl looks like he's gonna be no count at the NHL level.
Getting another dynamic forward and the top pairing defensive defenseman we've sorely needed for years is a definite win for us, even if they were indirect acquisitions.

Im not even sure I know those names lol. Who was the guy we had that went in the Kovalchuk deal, was a real scumbag on the ice with major major penalties/suspensions every other season

I've decided I hate this trade if for no other reason than it seems like it was done just to appease us. "Hey guys, we got a goalie!". Yeah, one that might not play again and that sucks when he does. Thanks a lot.

I think (or at least HOPE) it was done so that the Daws in the NHL experiment can end whenever he's ready to play.

And Gillies will get the games that Hammond doesn't get.

And I think we needed to also try and mitigate the bleeding from Gillies with someone that wasn't Daws.

We do have a good number of solid defensive prospects, I wonder if Minnesota would have taken one of them over Middleton. They probably wanted a roster player who could be iced immediately though.

Best deal Fitz has ever made. Hammond is an oustanding goalie and had one of the greatest performances of all time to drag the Senzzzzz to the playoffs several years back. He also played out of his mind for Colorado in the playoffs a few years back and was oustanding for the Habs this year.

Best trade deadline for the NJD ever.

Please hurry up and talk extension for Hammond ASAP.
Listen, DD, you will have to get in line. You know that @Bleedred is constantly demanding the team re-acquire Schneider and sign him to a long term extension. Maybe the two of you can get in a room together and arm wrestle to see who's guy gets the contract. I think that's the only fair way to settle it.

The advantage of acquiring an already injured goalie is that he can’t injure himself in the first week he’s here. Just a very rational trade!
He's not actually injured right now, he's just on IR because he's still getting in game shape after injury.

i do think that not moving could definitely help us in the offseason. wish we could've moved vesey though

It's not the biggest deal that we didn't. Realistically the best return we could have gotten for Vesey would be a 4th round pick or so.

While those do have some value, it's not much higher than a long-shot lottery ticket.

Fitz told everyone this a couple of weeks ago. He said he was looking for hockey trades at the deadline this season. I get it. Sending guys out for draft picks just sends the message to the locker room they are waving the white flag. Do you think Jack and Nico and Bratt will be excited to hear the team got a first a second and a prospect for Severson? Short of a team offering a good return for Subban, which didn't happen, I don't think anyone else was getting dumped, especially for a low round pick. Subban still has value to NJ down the stretch as a team out of the playoffs that is still trying to win games. I know some folks here have mixed feelings about that. Fitz is hoping the days of NJ as deadline dumpers are over, which I find understandable. The guys in the locker room have had nothing but bad news since 2018. Some belief in them by Fitz might be a good thing. I'm sure they hear plenty about how bad the team is from anyone else in NHL circles.
