And I do think this is a prelude to two more moves that Fitz will make. I truly do believe he is on the hot seat and I expect a lot more to be done and in this market it will cost a lot. So a lot of you folks need to be prepared for it.

He was always going to go for it even when Jack and Dougie went down. What message does it send to a guy like Nico if you just sit back and say it’s over? He’s your captain and a guy you hope is here beyond his current deal. Throwing in the towel when you’re still in a playoff position is a bad message to send. This was never going to go any other way. Tom was always going to buy.

Now, we can certainly get on Fitz for the state of our forward depth in the organization and whatever else grinds our gears. No doubt about that. We all just need to get into the mindset that more is coming and one of the deals is probably going to be a big splash.

I remember being interested in Dumoulin last year but his numbers were pretty bad. If he has anything left in the tank then this is a decent move.

I know that value isn't real but I always feel like Fitz ends up bidding against himself and pays more than he needs to. I appreciate the "I don't care about price, just get me the guy I need" mentality but I really don't think a 2nd or 3rd tier rental should be going for this much. Even if we have the surplus picks to not really care.

I don't see where there wouldn't. It's been blasted from the rooftops that Fitz was looking for depth D and center/forward help.

Dumoulin used to play in Pittsburgh when Fitz was there, so yeah.

Dumoulin played almost 20 a night with Anaheim and remained a net positive player for them! And Anaheim is~ -30 in differential

I think Fitzgerald wanted a lefty option that was as cheap as a 3rd pair but could play 2nd pair for us; Dumoulin fits that bill Id say!

Hatakka is sitting right there. There’s no way you spend those assets for marginal upgrade to “even out our defense”. That’s just insane management of assets. At least do it for a guy with term you can potentially flip this summer.

Everyone is complaining about the weakness of this draft.... Draft picks are over valued as is. Fitz clearly wants to win, so why not give it a go.

Problem is even if we make the playoffs how are we going to win a playoff round without Jack?

We are either going to play the Hurricanes or Washington/one of Toronto, Tampa, or Florida

It wouldn't even be an easy first round series, we can hobble into the playoffs and expect to get ousted in 5-6 games. Markstrom would have to pull out something unbelievable for us to win a round...
