I'm not claiming he's gonna be a 30 goal 60 point player every year. But he should be around 20-30 goals 40-60 points for the next few years. He's a valuable player. And it's not like the gap between 17 and 13 is really all that crazy, it's a few extra goals.

He's not a valuable player. I like him, but he's not valuable because he is a good goal scorer (which is what gets you paid) and isn't really that good at anything else. He kills penalties but I don't think he's good at that. I don't think he's very good on the power play, but Calgary uses him there. A player who just scores goals has to be an excellent goal scorer to be of use, and he's not that. He's useful for a worse team because those teams don't have someone who excels on PP1 - he can score a few goals there, but that's about it.

If nobody cares about him, why did you bring him up.

I was fine with getting rid of Zacha for Haula, but letting go of Boqvist and Sharangovich never made sense and it never will. They are versatile, skilled players that can play up and down the lineup. Just because the team is playing well doesn't mean we couldn't use them - we certainly could have last year.

And we should allow ourselves to critical of bad decisions by management without being labeled "doomers".

Toffoli played here last year and scored a boatload of goals. Boqvist is on his 3rd team now and will probably be on a 4th next year.

That's precisely why I didn't like the move. We got older and slower.
I understand why they did it. They thought they were getting a better goal scorer for Jack and didn’t have the faith in Shara to pay him what he ultimately got. In retrospect I think signing Palat was the worst mistake and would offer Shara over him but that’s water under the bridge. In any event I think that both would be expendable for the cap needed to sign Luke

Sharangovich was an RFA and was a healthy scratch many games towards the end of the season and in the playoffs. He wasn't a bad player but it didn't make sense for the Devils to invest in him long term. Now trading him for Toffoli who is slow and one dimensional ended up not being a good decision but they ended up flipping Toffoli for a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick, so they essentially got a 2nd round pick for Sharangovich which was about his value at the time he got traded.

As for Boqvist he cleared waivers after leaving the Devils and just signed for a league minimum contract with Florida this season. Every team in the league had multiple chances to get him for basically free and chose not to. If he was worth the qualifying offer then some team would have paid him more than the $775K he is currently
I think that Fitz made the right decisions at the given time , and I like his line of thought . He wanted a player better suited for playoff style hockey and had playoff experience. Shara was a healthy scratch at times because we had similar style players that were more effective. So why not trade from a point of strength to address a weakness ? I have no issues with what Fitz was trying to do by trading Shara for Toffoli . I’m glad he was proactive , recognized a need , and tried to address that need . I have faith he will do the same again and add a good piece to the bottom 6 by adding size and speed and a player that is hard to play against. We currently have a decent mix of skill with guys like Bratt and Jack but I think we still need another one or two Noesen / Cotter types in the bottom 6 . Someone like a Martinook or Staal. ( I hate both those guys but someone similar to those )

Not many people have been whining about Fitz trading away Sharangovich recently. Wonder why that is?

*checks NHL.com*

7 points in 18 games, only 3 ES points, despite being 2nd among Flames forwards in TOI/game. It's almost like he is exactly who we thought he was.

It's the same people who are negative, sometimes you also just have to realize that certain guys need scenery changes to flourish. If Shara is a 30 goal guy in Calgary for the rest of his career, so be it, it wasn't happening here ever lol

Ross Colton when healthy
I’d love to somehow get him. Isn’t he a NJ native and was a huge Devils fan growing up?
I wanted him since he was with Tampa . I was hoping that cap issues when he was an upcoming RFA ( or was it UFA ?) would make him available for cheap and we’d land him but Avs snagged him .
I want a M. Foligno type

Shara has some pretty shaky numbers the further you scroll right.

Has drown zero penalties so far. Giveaways at a career high rate. Takeaways a career low. Hits above last year, but below any year prior. Is there score keeper considerations there? I don't think so given he rates very poorly amongst Calgary fwd's.

His shot, and shot attempt rates are currently pretty good. But that is pretty much it.

It looks like he just signed with a team over in Finland today.

He hasn't played yet in any league this year, but I guess he just signed today.

It's funny how players like Tedenby and Gelinas are still active pro hockey players somewhere in this world, while guys who are around the same age like Urbom and Josefson have been retired for years.

Josefson’s career was ended early by injuries.

He was the Captain of Holtz’s SHL team and one of their best players when healthy.

Josefson won the SHL’s MVP award in 2018-19 and then was in and out of line-up with injuries in the next two seasons.

He didn’t play a single game in 2021-22 and then officially retired.

Urbom was also on the same SHL team as Josefson and Holtz lol.

Urbom washed out of the SHL earlier than Gelinas, but Urbom was defense only guy with worse skating.

Yes from the Mercer area in NJ. Total Devs fan!
He has a ntc in place and would waive for Devs. Landeskoog coming back was zn issue, he was seen as odd man out. Not sure where that stands now. He's injured rn for Avs

Honestly, I miss Zetterlund more than Sharangovich. Obviously I don't regret trading him for Timo, but of that crop of secondary guys we've moved out he was probably my favorite.
Was tempted to turn this into a Z vs Timo debate. Both with 19 points. 5v5 pts rate pretty even. Timo making $8.8 mil vs Z at $1.45(though due for a big raise I'm sure this offseason). Plus whatever else we gave up in that deal.

But instead I'll focus on Timo's last 10 games. 5v5 Just pumping shots, shot attempts, scoring chances, high danger chances, all the way down the line. 14 sog's/60. 27 iCF's/60. 14 iSCF's/60. All far and team the leader during that span. This was after a slow stretch proceeding, so it is good to see.

Only 1 goal on 3% shooting during that time. Even worse when looking at his 59 shot attempts. He is so due for a scoring heater.

My eye test (and i've probably only seen 50% of their hockey over the last few games) is that Timo is winning a lot of puck battles. Both on the boards and in the open ice.

I guess I've just been surprised how many times he's coming away with the puck.
