Absolutely amazing stuff from Luke. As he gets more and more confident and matures he is going to be a real problem for the league. He’s just scratching the surface.

What also makes my heart flutter in that clip is seeing 4 Devils back in good position to defend. Hard back checks from Palat and Jack. Those who have complained about Jack’s inability or unwillingness to defend should know that clip isn’t just a one off. He’s been doing it for most of the season and more consistently so as of late. He has bought in.
Can’t wait for that Luke extension to be announced. It’s going to feel great. Jack still has 5 years after this one lol.

Its not really that fair.

The team gives up a lot of weak chances when they are ahead and play riskier when behind. If he gives up a goal early, the team pushes and opponents don't get as much shots. They score first, then they sit back and give up a lot of weak perimeter shots.

I really like Keefe trusting Jack more in all situations. His line created that empty net situation, and his forecheck was the catalyst to the turnover to Bratt.

Jack rules. We're so lucky.
Keefe seems willing, or even wanting, to use Jack as defensive winger, where he can pressure on the forecheck or high in the defensive zone.

And if he keeps the point production nice and low we are going to get a very team friendly deal.

Does this hold up when Allen is in net?

Seeing the icing discussion in the game thread.

I feel like the Devils defenseman desperately need to get comfortable the high flip to the opponents blue line when the other team is ramping pressure up. Especially for the top 2 lines.

Opponents aren’t fearing the Devils turning a puck recovery in the corner into an odd man rush so they’re pretty comfortable keeping 4-5 guys in the zone to see if a turnover can happen.

The Devils have to get the opponents defenseman leaving the zone so that they have more space to breakout. The Devils could do this by having a forward break out of the zone through the middle but the team currently doesn’t seem to want to risk anyone leaving the zone early.

If the Devils won’t allow even 1 guy leave early and opponents are keeping 4-5 guys in then I think your best option is the high flip to center ice or the opponents blue line. It relieves pressure, avoids defensive zone turnovers, forces defenseman to turn around, and can still lead to offense but at worst forces the opponent to try and re-enter.

Even Florida was high flipping a bunch when the Devils were ramping up pressure. If your opponent is taking away all your space east to west in your defensive zone then the area of least resistance is going to be vertical.

This isn’t to advocate for high flips being plan A but the Devils defenseman seem to be struggling with what to do if plan A and maybe B aren’t available. High Flip should get on their menu as a planned option for right now.

Monday's episode which I missed since I was distracted by sports. Looks like Chris cost himself $1,000 in prize money with a non-strategic Final Jeopardy wager. [/petpeeve]

holy shit thanks for this link

can 'play' the game without having to sit and watch the show... and a lot quicker too

If Dillon is dishing out hits and getting into fights should the team scratch MacDermid and dress a 7th defenseman? Seems more worthwhile to have DeSimone in than Mac
I've seen a number of posters suggest sitting MacDermid. He's only useful in limited situations and certain teams. Last night he may have helped keep the peace at the end of a game where you'd have expected Florida to try to "send a message" but is that worth it to have him in the lineup when the Panthers don't have anyone to fight him and he wont' fight anyone in a weight class beneath and he won't confront any players other than super heavyweights? I'd at least experiment with 11-7 but if they are going to do that I'd play Casey and send back DeSimone.

Ah, so it looks like Jeopardy merely lifted this Satan's Wallpaper thing from his hockey reference profile.

What I wanna know is where hockey reference or their editors got this nickname from?

It's not just Marty. There's a lot of weird nicknames on their on player profiles for other players, which I've never heard of those players being called. I remember laughing about nicknames I had never heard of for players on there about a year ago when they started adding them to profiles.

Even Jack Huges. ''Gentleman's Jack''? ''The Big Deal''? Has anyone ever heard these nicknames for Jack Hughes? Maybe if it was ''Wide Turns'' or something. I'm surprised Kakko's doesn't have ''Plays Against Men'' under his.

Keefe already mentioned he's not a fan of running 7 defensemen and breaking up the pairings. It's not like having Smith who was actually pretty good at subbing into the fourth line and playing on the PK in those situations. MacDermid is a converted defenseman so we are kind of running 7 D lol.

Our defense is playing really well, no need to mess with it. DeSimone isn't going to get time unless someone gets hurt.

I was mocked last year for suggesting he should be used on the PK. He is a menace and can disrupt on defense. As long as he can be positionally responsible, it's a huge asset.
It's very similar to Bratt in that we know they can be effective but do we want them getting worn out and blocking shots on the PK?

But I don't think either guy will ever be PK1, log a lot of PK minutes or even face PP1's. So I suspect that while each are now part of the rotation neither is going to be leaned on too heavily. They just add a little disruptive juice late in the PK against 2nd units.

He's 4th on the team in scoring behind Hischier, Hughes, and Bratt. Next closest Dman is Siegenthaler, at half the total points.

Sure but it’s not like Luke couldn’t play on the PP next season and that $9 mil will come in handy. In a cap world you can’t pay everyone
AND we have Nemec and Casey knocking on the door. If we want one of those guys in the lineup next year someone has to go.

Dougie as the oldest guy of the group, and also the one making the most money, makes him an easy mark.
