It’s not quite as funny when I see all these other names I’ve ever heard of before lol.

I wonder just how many people write in a candidate?

I also had a chuckle at the write in for Hillary Rodhan Clinton (it’s Rodham) and am wondering if that’s an entirely different person and not the former First Lady/senator/presidential candidate.

It really sucks for Jamie Dimon. Should have gotten 2 votes, but Jamie Dimon gets 1 vote and JAMIE DIMON gets 1 vote instead.

I'm talking a good young center who can/will play 3rd center on the Devils, but is really a better player then that. Thus allowing us to ice the elusive true top 9.

I also think people need to pump the brakes on Casey. Absolutely he has puck skills, yes he skates well, but he's also very small and in a short stint of very protected minutes posted brutal on ice numbers. Sure he scored some goals but that's not even his game.

I've seen Q Hughes and Fox comparisons, but those guys never got caved like this, and Fox came in playing a normal shift. Quinn played some easy minutes early but posted solid numbers.

He's still a high level player. Currently significantly better then either young guy.

As we all know it's a question of contract.
The 1st 2 seasons of Quinn's career he was carried like a babe in swaddling clothing by Chris Tanev. Yet he still struggled defensively and didn't have great numbers 41 points in year 2 and a minus 24 in only 56 GP. After he settled into his role in year 3 his career has been constantly on the rise to where in '23-24 he was the league's best D-man with 92 points in 82 GP and a +38.

I'd pump the brakes on the extremely early play of Casey. Quinn had 2 seasons in Michigan as did Casey. they both registered 29 Pts as Freshman and Casey had the higher point total in their sophomore years 45-33.
Both made the NCAA (BIG) All Rookie Team. In year 2 they were both named to the NCAA (BIG) First All-Star Team and the NCAA (WEST) First All-American Team among other awards.

Hughes got the jump on him in their 1st pro seasons, but I wouldn't count Casey out moving forward. Also NJ doesn't have a Chris Tanev type defender like Quinn had in Vancouver either.

So who will be our big name goalie to pursue this offseason?
Mackenzie Blackwood is one of the bigger names in the league.

Yup, and again, even getting 40% with consistent faceoff deployment would be fine. However, he's completely unserviceable. The Jack fan club shouldn't argue with me; go argue with the actual coaching staff that clearly does everything it can to avoid deploying him in a true C role. They don't trust him. It screws up the rotation at ES and forces them to use 1 powerplay unit. That is 99% on Jack.

The other 1% is actually on Fitz. I pointed out the massive risk in heading into this season with the center depth as is and it's already problematic even with a 100% healthy forward core. He needed both Jack to round out his game AND Mercer to rebound production wise plus be a utility C as needed. Oh, and 100% health. Obviously still early and a new coaching staff, but he's only gotten 1 of those 3 things so far.

The folks laughing at this viewpoint are the same that ridiculed those of us who pointed out a defensive core of undersized/soft/ 5'11 guys would be a disaster several years back. At least this org and their brainiac "analytics" gurus corrected that mistake eventually.

Anyway, the faceoff stuff isn't the main issue for Jack. It's the unwillingness to round out his game and continuing to take away his teammates, overhandle the puck, etc. I have to reiterate this so someone doesn't go "you think jack is a BUM because he can't take faceoffs". Doesn't make him a bad player, but it prevents him from being what this org needs to contend and what 90% of this board has laughably already convinced themselves he is. I mean, how do you have a discussion with people claiming his shot is ELITE in this very thread for example? No one that isn't a complete blinded Devils homer would say that, so what's the point?
Update?

J.Hughes always had fun and interesting points about the games, but after watching the last post game interview, I get the impression he has matured a lot from last season. He picked some really smart words there.

Happy Nemec got sent down. Hopefully he takes it positively.

I understand why they kept him with the team during the Western trip. But happy they sent him down right away.

Will his first game be tonight?

Defense getting any better?

I think so.
We were shutting out Calgary until the last 5 minutes. We were bit flat that game
We shut out Edmonton and the D looked OK but it was more Allen who shut the door.
Vs Montreal Markstrom was a bit leaky, but I don't think the D was horrible.

I've been very tied up with personal matters so I haven't been able to REALLY watch the games, so maybe some else can get into details?

If they lose to Montreal tonight the season's over so you will have to double up on the book signing and prospect writing circuits.
I hear we are trading for Josh Anderson, which will immediately make the Devils the Stanley Cup favorite. Apparently, we're giving up Nemec, Casey and 1st round picks in 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029, but of course Josh Anderson is worth any price.
