I think one thing interesting about the PP is that the first PP unit features a lot of skating and position swapping compared to a standard PP unit.

This is interesting because it matches how the PP looked during the huge PP start last season…before it became more static and struggled.

I don’t think it’s as simple as “when they move they succeed” but I do think Hughes and Bratt’s skating are the largest plus skills on the PP(honorable mention Hamilton shot) so creating a PP system that allows them to use their skating is a good idea.

You know your idea is a good one if other people start to steal it and I think teams with really good skaters should take things from this PP.

Was fun to see Hughes score a goal in Vancouver like Pavel Bure just hanging out at the front of the net, and he did so because everyone on Vancouver lost track of where he was.

didn't know where to put this but I was thinking about taking a trip revolving around where the devils will be playing. was thinking nashville and vegas obviously but what are some other cool cities to think about? preferrably not frigid temperatures but I don't know how feasible that's going to be lol

edit - no go on florida. I was just there 😎

Who do ya'll think gets more points by end of season? Hischier or Bratt?

Honestly, it's a tough question. I think historically anyone would have said Bratt and been correct, but Nico is playing out of his mind right now.

I would probably still lean towards Bratt because he's still at a point per game pace and we feel like Jack still has another gear to unlock since they're playing together. But you can't go wrong with either.

Not the best faceoff taker, and he may cost too much in a deadline bid-off; but what about Brock Nelson on a line with Jack and Bratt near the deadline?

We'd accrue enough cap space by then and that doesn't include maybe putting Lazar on LTIR or sending Nemec down, saving a few bucks with DeSimo e

Vegas is such a cool experience. Saw the Devils play there in the first season and it was amazing. They really Vegas up all the tv time outs and intermissions, and that was how many years ago, I bet it's better now.

I did the Vegas game in 2018 and that was great. One of my other close friends (who had moved to Phoenix in 2014) also happened to be there for March Madness. Devils play at Utah on a Saturday, then Vegas the next day. I'm debating if I want to see them in Utah, or just do a three day weekend in Vegas.

The California road trip this year is around New Year's so flights/hotels might be higher than usual. That is assuming you don't have local plans.

December 31 - Devils@Ducks
January 1 - Devils@Kings
January 4 - Devils@Sharks

You could mix in some sight seeing hypothetically. Since the Sharks game is a 1pm start, I'm debating flying up and back in the same day. I did this with a couple Sharks buddies in 2022. Something very satisfying about jumping on a plane with no bags.

The Devils finish that swing in Seattle and I always enjoy visiting my college friends there. Although it probably will be stereotypical weather in early January.

It's too bad the Coyotes relocated. It seemed like the Devils would always play there in March when Spring Training was happening. One year we caught a game at the Dodgers facility and made the short drive to the Coyotes rink in Glendale.

If you add Boqvist and subtract Tierney to last year’s team, do you genuinely believe anything would be different? This is the last time I’m mentioning this player, because lol.

No, obviously not lol. But it was such a nothing move to keep him after 22-23 and then they had to go out and get guys in the bottom 6 in the following year is my point.

really appreciate the detailed response! I'd love to do the california road trip but I think that would be a little too hectic around new years for me. vegas might be the play.. though seattle could be cool (literally and figuratively)

That's how you run a team. Boqvist didn't fit in with their long-term plans so they went and got other players. As constituted, he doesn't dress in 2023-24 or 2024-25's opening lineup. It'd be very nice to have a perennial 13th forward but I don't really think it's fair to Boqvist to do that.
