My glorious king jesper boqvist
More like inglorious king.
Devils were really not happy with Boqvist and Sharangovich when they were really good for their role and solid enough for call ups when needed. Best is the enemy of good.

I woukd not be against to add Turcotte too. May be he needs change of scenery.

I dunno but for some reason the Devils deleted the Tweet. That's weird.
Maybe a costume was unintentionally offensive or there was vulgarity that initially went unnoticed? Im sure it was saved by someone or is on some player’s Instagram or whatever the current platform the cool kids are using.

Boqvist was fine but there's a reason he's moved teams again. He's just an okay ES player who can score a bit. He's not really any good defensively, isn't good at faceoffs, isn't used on special teams much. The Panthers are using him to kill penalties which is something I felt the Devils should've done more of. But he's always going to be a player who teams look to upgrade on.

Like I said he isn't good but he isn't bad. He is okay. But he is very good at being okay. He would be much better than many teams have as 12th or 13th forward. Devils too. As this year, as previous year. Especially with our lack of centers.

The one consistent thing about HF Devils stretching all the way back to the Lou days is it's ability to pine over lost JAGs

I will never forget how I tried to will Kalinin out of the garbage pan. I worked at it for half a season. And then, by the next season he was basically out of the team ...

Oh did he have no puck skills/hands.....

Jesper Boqvist is like a Ferrari when it comes to guys like Kalinin.

Beau Bennet, Kalinin, some other dudes, we had quite the shit at some point. Loktionov was up there too.

Does Zharkov count as a JAG i wonder? He only ever played for us until he went back to Russia.

Boy did a lot of us want that to work

Zharkov was better than Kalinin. He was similar to Loktionov. Had some skill at least, kind of.

The peak project player we all loved was Yayo.

He truly was a likable player, a JAG of sorts, but we couldn't get or squeeze anything out of him. I'm glad a few years later we got Nico and Jesper Bratt to forget all about those sad days

I remember that one dude in the early Shero years I think. Was a bit of a Corsi darling but produced next to doing. Cordell I think really loved him and hated we let him go.

Couple of those last Conte picks had some hold outs for a few years that one more push and they would finally blossom.

Now I am thinking of the good old days.

This board flipping it's collective shit when Urbom got claimed off waivers. Turned into a absolute nothing burger of a player.

Jim and a few people pissed we let that Russian D prospect go to the Rangers. Also amounted to absolutely nothing.

We had a lot of guys like Rooney it seemed for awhile.

We also had some interesting JAG offensive D guys. I remember we hyped up this one guy who made the team from camp, damn I can't rememeber his name but he was all offense on D.

Can't even remember now. Obviously gelinas but this was guys after him, there was a series of random JAG dmen with some offense. Oh there was auvitu but another one. Shit, now I have to look it up.

Edit: some guys like Rooney, Nick Lappin and Blake pietilla. Somehow out of that came blake Coleman and we forgot about pretty much all the other dudes him and Rooney at least seemed to be workable.

Still can't find that D I'm trying to recall.

Gelinas was an infuriating prospect because the kid had some really good physcial tools, but a brain that was somehow dumber then a potato.

But thinking about it I don't recall him being a good skater so even if he got smarter he probably was always doomed to wash out.

We had a lot of guys with cement skates in those prospect pools

Description doesn't fit - I don't think he was really an offensive D - but I think you're thinking of Yakovlev. Only other 'offensive D' I can think of in that mold was Warsofsky but he was pulled off waivers in the middle of the season.

Boo that Ranger.

I mean, I guess I liked it when he was with us, but yeah... I think his ship had sailed awhile ago.
I was just throwing out a random depth guy from the past. I'd honestly forgotten he played for the Rangers after us. And now he's a member of the ex-Devil collection they have going on in Calgary.

I think it was warsofsky but I might be confusing him with someone else. I thought the guy made it out of camp. Brain getting cramped. Looking back at those tp rosters now...

I forgotten about yakolev that was basically another flash in the pan.

I figured you brought up Rooney because of Calgary, but I mostly remember him on the rags after us, for some reason. Can't blame him but it is funny to me.

Now that I think of it, all these new or younger devils fans better appreciate where we are NOW, even with the flaws, because between 2014 and 2017 there was quite some crap

I think I was literally the only guy on the forum still trying to root for Drew Stafford, when Bleedred and mostly everyone already had him in the bonedust bin, and everyone was right about it. Fun times on here.

Gelinas was not good on his edges and he wasn't strong on his skates and he wasn't very good skating backwards but he was IMO quite fast going forwards and had a high top speed - he'd be the second-fastest skater on our blueline now, I think. But it didn't matter because he had no awareness and of course now we just don't even see defenders like Gelinas anymore - the NHL moved on from this type of player. Shame because I did grow up loving Al Iafrate in the EA Sports games but that is just over and done with.
