Sounds like Joe Schoen and that kind of logic has done wonders for the Giants.

I frequently criticize the contract Dougie has since he's not a true #1 defenseman ( aka Hedman, Josi, Pietrangelo or some of the others in that class).

But if the Devils organization values him at that rate and then moves him because of his contract that sends a message to both your own locker room and any potential free agents that you're going to nickel and dime players when it comes to salaries.

ah, glad to see this is your new talking point, since complaining about

Hischier
Bratt
Hughes
Hughes

has done so well for you!

so what "should" his production be, in your eyes?

if he had 2 more goals and 1 more assist would that be "acceptable"?

3 more goals? Yes, could have helped against TBL. It was 1-0 going into the third. Or how about against the Sharks? Shut out there too. Yes, more goals and assists.

I want him to force his way back onto PP1. He was kicked off for a different look shortly into the season after practicing there all of training camp. 8.8, remember that.

I doubt we are going to see many bawdy point totals this year. The team is much more complete, guys like Noesen/Cotter are filling the net and there's only one puck to go around. There's also a lot more structure, this isn't a Lindy system where 5 guys are out there playing street hockey.

Jack will finish above a PPG, Bratt will be around a PPG, Nico will probably be close (~70-75). I can't see Dougie breaking 60 points this season (I know he's on pace to but I think he slows down). If Timo puts up 30 goals then I really don't care what his assists look like.

An 8.8M player needs to score, yes, but we all know he's here to be a difference maker in the playoffs. People are quick to forget how disruptive he was against NYR, even when he wasn't producing he was making an impact every play.

Plus we know he scores in bunches, a 5 game heater could net him 7 goals and 12 points and have him up there with OV real quick.

lol picking random games and saying "he should have scored here!" is super weird. the PP is top 5 in the league. Why would we need to change it? That seems like complaining just to complain. Some of you guys have the weirdest talking points.

I don't give a shit what his cap hit is. That doesn't matter during the season.

Timo is averaging about 2 minutes less than he was in his last two years in San Jose and is not playing on the top PP. He's also playing with Nico, whose line is typically being put out against the opposition's toughest matchup.

Despite that, he's still above where he was last year offensively and playing far better defensively according to his metrics than he did last year.

As mentioned above, I don't expect there to be significant offensive totals either. The team is playing a bit more reigned in right now. That could change as the season picks up, but it's not the same rush, run and gun style that Lindy was letting take place.

Let's not forget Timo capped the last 2 months of the season with 18 goals and 30 points in the final 26 games. He'll have his streaks, I'm sure.

The team is still top 10 in points % and that is with a very unfavorable schedule to start the season with a new coach

I just don’t understand the dooming and negativity on certain players this early on
Don't understand the doom and negativity? You must new around here.

I don't think I liked your follow up question too much either, especially using words like "should" or "acceptable", just felt like you were baiting me and so I described what 3 goals could look like. And to your point, these goals could not have mattered.

$8M to be a PP2 guy is not good budget/roster management -- don't really want to discussthis point. And the "imagine this person makes this amount" won't work here like we've tried with Palat. No reason to imagine budget flexibility, you have it or you don't.

I think he’d be looked at as a grizzled veteran that plays a solid two way game as opposed to a soft floater that can’t do it in da playoffs.
Are you talking about the guy that's been a healthy scratch in the playoffs for multiple different teams in his career, back when he was younger and more productive?

Just making sure that's the guy you want me to avoid calling a "soft floater that can't do it in da playoffs".

Yep. The guy that was a +41 that year. And a complementary part of one of the best lines in the NHL in MTL too. Not soft, not a floater. Strong defensive veteran player.

once they traded for Meier they were sort of stuck having to pay him top dollar. They gave up a good number of assets and him walking after one playoff run and one additional season would have been even worse roster management. Serious question, if you didn't have Meier who is on the team in his stead? That money sitting there waiting to be used would likely have gone to an older worse player in my view. Fitz keeps adding retirement contracts. All of this is a function of draft mistakes. If Zacha is who they wanted they don't have to spring for Meier. Same with Blackwood and Markstrom. McLeod is a different problem but same outcome. They got one player from 2017. That's a lot of drafts that would be in their prime right now that would have been contributing. Instead they have two great players in Bratt and Hischier and nothing else from 2015-2018. That's why they end up paying Meier. He's overpaid but I bet he's still a better bet than the alternative.

Dude it’s a business relax. Dougie didn’t take any discounts to come here so the devils don’t owe him any favors

All I ask for is 100pts from someone and make the playoffs with ease

I much rather have Timo on the team then not have him I don’t care what the contract is because who else were they going to get anyway without having to overpay on the open market (dougie). Timo was worth it in the rangers series and have full confidence he will be worth it come playoff time.

Off topic but I absolutely want to keep palat for this playoff (if we make it) if he sucks then look to dump him.

I think you're underestimating how much these guys understand about it being a business. They lucked into getting a guy like Nemec after having Hamilton signed. Guys get that. If anyone pushes Hamilton out nobody on the team will care because it improves their team.

I made a Gordon Ramsey joke....but no one laughed. Me sad.

(well okay...I was kinda....making fun of @RSeen 's "Top 6 DISH forward" comment but I thought it was a clever quip... :sarcasm: )
But you are entitled to think differently than some of us slow one. Later. How are you doing? We are going to be in the playoffs unless the injury bug strikes.
