My first game this season was a few friends and I sitting in the 200s for the Anaheim game, feeling just how on edge everyone there was getting, jokingly cheering "YEAH, GOON IT UP!" when the Devils started getting more physical on the puck, then leaving the game thinking "holy shit, they looked really good just now!"

My next game was around a week later, a solo night out where on a whim I decided to pick up a ticket to see them play the Caps after they won a couple more games in a row...and they lost 6-3, with a whole lot of people basically bailing after the second period because it was just too depressing to keep watching how many goals they could give up.

Game after that, the 13 game heater began. I'm glad I got to a couple of those wins before going to the game they lost to Toronto.

The fates must refuse to allow this season to fall at the hands of the blue-clad schmucks.

Team will go further once Hamilton is deprioritized

That's not happening anytime soon and if Nemec becomes elite very soon, it's going to be at the expense of Marino going to 3RD. Dougie is going to be a top 4 until maybe the last 1-2 years of his deal.

Imagine rooting for an NHL team with less than 2 Hughes brothers on the roster. Couldn't be me.

Also, Tom Wilson deserves a statue for ending the MacKenzie Blackwood era last night.

Hopefully he's our rental next year, the Caps imploding and trading him to us for the Caps-Devils trifecta since we got Siegs and Vitek already from them.

Speaking of advanced stats. There’s one thing that’s always true and that’s Severson is weird f***ing player.

This is perhaps the most Seversony chart ever.

This is actually hilarious.

My number one moment of the season has got to be the Damon Severson OT winner in the comeback against the Rangers. We were struggling up until that point with the big home losing streak occurring right around this time and I feel like that was the game that set the tone for the rest of the season that has carried us through until now.
There’s been a lot of huge timely moments like that.

Schmid coming into Colorado and holding down the fort. Same for the Ottawa game.

Bratt scored some incredibly important goals at different times throughout the season. Had a knack for getting a timely goal when we needed it. The winner in Edmonton, the response goal in Toronto, and the goal in Boston that stabilized that game from getting out of control. There’s a couple more I know I’m missing.

Mercer and Boqvist single-handedly jump starting the come back win in Carolina when Devils looked out of it.

We had a lot of guys step up when we needed them.

Jesper ends the year with 73 points.

Why is it a foregone conclusion that a forward now six years removed from his debut will get 8 or higher if theyre essentially a slightly-below PPG player? And is that 8 people suggest only for eight years term? Seven or six or five years?

I really dont see why Jesper cant be had at 7.5-7.75 for 5-7 years , thats still plenty fair for his production. And 8x7-8 years isnt bad either Im not damning it and ill gladly sign it with the money weve already saved on Jack and Nico (and maybe soon Mercer). But Mercer's rise coupled with Bratt's inability to capitalize on a strong offense in a year where lots of players shined above career highs - Ive gotta imagine his 8 before has dropped a little

I definitely think Bratt was banking on a production jump this year. Theoretically, it should’ve. He basically got the same opportunities and the team’s offensive production has skyrocketed as a whole. I’m actually pretty shocked his production slightly dropped. You’d think that’d help Fitz with the negotiations.

With that said, he’s one of the best play drivers in the league and I’d gladly sign him to 8-8.5 mil. Sign both him and Timo at the same deal and call it a day.

I'm not understanding why Boston media is trying to gotcha us with Zacha

Because every side thinks they have to win a trade and the other team has to lose a trade.

Zacha needed to removed from the Devils. In Boston where he stepped into a situation where they already had Bergeron and Krecji and a lot of other vets where he has to toe the line. Here he would still be the former 6 overall pick the team was banking on who pouted when he got moved to wing because he got passed on the depth chart. Haula filled in perfectly to what the Devils needed…a depth possession hog.

I chuckled last Saturday when in the broadcast PK was talking about Zacha and heavily implied that he was lazy in NJ (talking about how the pressure guys like Bergeron put on other players on the roster). It was accurate, but it was funny because PK was another guy the Devils needed to remove off the roster.

If Sullivan doesn't stick with the Pens would he be a good choice for next HC?
He'll probably get hired this summer and I can't see us moving from Ruff unless he wants to. But yeah, I wouldn't mind Sullivan. I don't buy that the issues come from him in Pittsburgh.

I think PK realized he was cooked though. His personality and work ethic seemed to be a good influence on everyone, he just lost all the speed that had carried him through his career.

It’s brunettes job to lose. IMO I think he was told he’s the successor to ruff whenever that may be
