I think the Kings are very very high on Faber . Maybe the emergence of Durzi might make Faber somewhat available ? I’d do this trade in a heartbeat . Which makes me question if the Kings would
I think the Kings would do it. They have Brandt Clarke as their best RD prospect, and Drew Doughty on the big club at RD. They have more depth in the pool at RD, with Jordan Spence as the #2 RD prospect and Helge Grans as the #3 RD prospect. But they need LD next year, and they need wings for the top 9. Graeme Clarke could be the sweetener.

Personally, I don't believe in "shopping" a player unless you're a seller at the deadline. Mostly, my trade strategy would be to target players you want/need from other organizations and then make an offer. Brack Faber is one hell of a prospect, no doubt, but the Kings are in a position where they could afford to move him in the right deal.

I dunno, is Faber that great a prospect? 2nd round pick. OK production in college. OK production before that with the US U-18 team. OK size. I'm doubting he's a plus skater.

All that points to me as Faber maybe having 2nd pair upside. In return we are trading 2 former 1st picks, each with NHL experience and a former 3rd rnd pick to boot.

I'm not very high on Smith, and while I've always liked Zacha's potential, I think his time here is running pretty short. Still I don't think the return in this trade is enough.

Edit: it also looks like LA has drafted RD pretty heavily in recent years. Clarke, Spence, Grans.
Faber is that great a prospect. Excellent skater. Production is irrelevant with defensemen, especially defensemen of Faber's player type -- though he's very adept with the puck, he plays a conservative, team-first style. He could potentially score more, but he's very careful in his rushes and pinches. I'd say he's the #2 RD prospect right now after only fell Kings-property Brandt Clarke, although Scott Morrow is right there, too.

Zacha and Smith are both likely to be traded this off-season, and whether we like them or not, we need to face this is as a very possible reality.

While I agree with a lot of this is but it would depend on how the kings view Smith and where they seen him fitting in. First they obviously have to like him (as well as Zacha and Clarke) and then they have to see him as a good fit. They do need LD but do you think they really need or want a smaller powerplay QB who has a questionable defensive game. They already have guys now and going forward who are capable offensively and can run their powerplay well. Doughty, Durzi, and Spence are all capable and Brandt Clarke will be there in the next couple years I’d imagine. Grans is also a more offensive defensmen who can run a powerplay. Faber is actually the only one of those players who is more of a defensive guy.

So Smith may not be a fit there and the issue in finding a trade for Smith may be that there aren’t many teams looking for a powerplay QB who’s poor defensively and that’s where Smith would be the most valuable. He’s an offensive guy but he’s never gonna put up good offensive numbers if he’s not on a powerplay. And is defensive game isn’t good enough.

Well, as soon as the Devils hire me, I can push the idea and we can see if the Kings bite. Baffling they haven't offered me a job yet in that front office, I figure they're just being coy.

The most I could offer him is 6 years at 10.5mil

But to be completely honest I dont think its a good fit. I think that money is better spent throughout the lineup. Our cap situation is almost perfect right now minus Hamilton's 9, which is probably 1-1.5m too high but UFA standard.

I think Jesper Bratt can man the top LW with Hischier as a matchup line and be Gaudreau-lite (maybe put Holtz at their RW, they could use a pure shooter), while Jack flanks at 2C with maybe a better and cheaper option this offseason at LW/RW to pair with Sharangovich/Mercer, whichever goes there next season.

Mercer on the third line would be great, if we could acquire a RW for Jack and Yegor. Him and Boqvist could split center duties

I don’t think we want Mercer on the 3rd line and he’s good enough to play in our top 6 and hopefully he keeps getting better. He’s already a good compliment to the players we already have there too IMO. I think he could be really good as a winger alongside our top playmakers.

We struggle with the idea of Smith being competent but also returning something competent back

How about this for a trade proposal?

To Los Angeles:
LD Ty Smith
LW Pavel Zacha
RW Graeme Clarke

To New Jersey:
RD Brock Faber
2nd round pick 2022 (currently #51 overall)

I think it makes sense for both teams. LA stands to lose one or both of UFA LD Maata and Edler, and lack a puck-moving LD. Zacha could make it in LA as a puck-moving middle 6 LW. Graeme Clarke gives them another RW scoring prospect who is also the brother of their #2 overall prospect in Brandt Clarke.

For NJ, a huge hole is filled at RD, where Faber jumps to #1 on the prospect depth chart, a country mile ahead of McCarthy or Walsh. In fact, I'd say Faber would be not-to-far behind Holtz/Gritsyuk as the #4 overall prospect for NJ, just ahead of Mukhamadullin. The pick has obvious value to the Devils, who would still need to draft for RD, depth C and interior/power F.

With the #1 prospect pool in the NHL, the Kings can clearly deal with the loss of those picks. Although losing Faber would hurt, LA still has Doughty at the NHL level and the #1 RD prospect in hockey with Brandt Clarke -- though I'd say Faber is currently #2 in that respect.

Who says no?
I think there is good value on both sides of this deal for both teams to be interested. For the Devils, it really seems like this offseason will be time for us to bundle or “Voltron” some players and prospects into a package that gets us back a player or players that more fit what our young growing team needs. Being honest in saying that my extent of Faber knowledge is from my time of following your prospect rankings and if he’s as good as you say then it’s exactly what our prospect pool needs at that position.

I know I said I wasn't going to give them a dime the rest of the year but tickets are dirt cheap today and it's a day game which is perfect to bring the kids to. First time for my 4 year old.
Draft position be damned… I hope your 4 year old gets to see a bunch of Devils goals and a win for their 1st game. Have fun Bildo!

I think the Kings would refuse it. They have a lot of offensive minded D prospects, but not so many defensive D prospects. I think they are willing to trade Durzi, Spence or even Grans, but not Faber. Or if they trade Faber and second round pick, they want something better than Smith, Zacha and Clarke.

A lot of Kings fans seems to think that Faber is their best D prospect after Clarke.
