Let's see how tomorrow goes against Winnipeg. That's typically a game they lose and look bad doing so. If they make a game of it, that means something if not a lot. You know Winnipeg will go 100% since they have everything to play for.

In our defense, we occasionally beat Winnipeg at home and usually keep the score close when we play them in NJ. We never win at Winnipeg, and typically get crushed there.

Allen didn’t do particularly well for the Habs this year in general but he did beat the Jets twice:

Sure, not everyone will be checked out. That's never the case in the worst of circumstances...

Everyone will have different motivations... playing for positions next year, proving themselves to their new team, bonuses, even pride ...all sorts of reasons. But it's still all under the umbrella of knowing the season is over.

Every single one of those guys knows the real circumstances.

The turn in play is almost entirely health-related. We don’t need to kill Lindy.

This is only ES stats, though.

From the Stadium Series to the Ruff firing (8 games) Meier had 11:13 PP TOI (6th overall, 5th amongst forwards) and 0 PP points.

Since the Ruff firing (8 games) Meier has 21:53 PP TOI (5th overall, 4th amongst forwards) and 3 PP goals. We have 4 PP goals in that time frame and Meier has 3 of them.

The team has gone from 15.7% (27th) in the earlier time frame to 20% (19th) on the PP. It's a modest increase, but noteworthy.

The other factor is that Toffoli is no longer here. Meier is clearly a better fit than Toffoli on the top unit. But, we didn't need to trade Toffoli in order for Meier to be on PP 1 - the coach could have done that at any time.

We're in garbage time. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from the remaining games. We play a bunch of teams jockeying for bottom positions coming up. We're probably dumb enough to win them but our games are completely meaningless right now.

I usually watch my dogs rolling around on the couch and then again when they stand in front of me demanding attention when I'm trying to watch the game, but I can only speak for me. It was easier when at least one of the boys was living at home since they'd have someone else to pester for petting and treats since my wife doesn't give them as many treats they tend to leave her alone if she's watching TV.

We have 13 more games and 3 more sets of back to backs. No way Allen should play any of the back to back games and Kahkonen should probably play at least 2 more.

I’m sure it will go something a little closer to Allen playing 9 or 10 of the last 13 games though.

Yes and no. I'm not sure all the guys pay much attention to the team doings beyond their own motivation. If they don't care if the season's over it makes no functional difference in my view. For example, Timo is still apparently playing hard and I'm guessing it's because it was a crappy season for him and he wants to restore his confidence and show he's a better player than he was injured. He's trying his best. The playoff picture doesn't matter for that and I'd absolutely take something from his finish. From some other guys probably not, but as someone pointed out a few days ago Bratt's historical trend is to slow down as the season wears on so a slow ending for him is almost expected and has some meaning. It's a patchwork to me and I'd look at each guy as an individual rather than just write off a whole swath of games as having no meaning for the future.
