If they hire Sullivan......god bless anyone that wastes their time supporting this org afterwards. Nevermind spending their own $$$ to do so.

He hasn't won a playoff series in 6+ years. While having a core of Crosby, Malkin, and Letang......

And having worked in Pitts for a couple of those series and catching the games live, holy hell did they play uninspiring, soft hockey at home. Arena felt like a morgue as a result. Remain the worst playoff hockey atmosphere games I've ever been to.

So does that mean if they hire him, you won't watch or post here?

Almost every Pens fan has said that Sullivan's system is perfect for this roster. I tend to agree. While those players have had in Pittsburgh still been good, they do not have speed.

The one interesting thing Green is doing, which was probably noted in the game thread but I'm not going to dig through all of that, is that he's doing a kind of Russian Five thing with Hughes and Nemec in back and Hughes, Hischier, and Bratt up front. I question the efficacy of it - it sure leaves the other 35+ minutes of the game up to players who are probably not up to that task - but it will give 5 of the Devils' best players lots of ice time with one another to figure things out.

This is something that Colorado was doing earlier in the year when they were dealing with their injury issues - it was more effective for them since their top players are in-their-prime horses. It is certainly something that the coaches should keep in their bag for when the situation calls for it.

I will say that I'm not sure playing Jack and Nico as full time line mates is the right call - when Jack has been used as a "wing" in the past it was mostly in name only, but that is not the case with Hischier. They probably need some more time before drawing any definitive conclusions, but I'm skeptical.

Too much Sullivan talk around here for a guy who may not even be available in the summer. Dubas has made comments in the last week indicating that he wants to keep him around. That's not definitive that he won't be let go, but everyone keeps hammering the Sullivan idea while it's 50/50 at best that he'll even shake free.

That leaves us looking at guys like Berube (no thanks), Dineen (no thanks) or Jay Leach. Not the greatest crop, but Leach is probably the best option.

Unfortunately, I have no faith in the management group going with an "unknown"/rookie coach for this roster.

Called that weeks ago. There’s something cooking in that room so whatever coach they bring in won’t matter if they don’t fix that. Is it the Hughes brothers? Vets clashing with the kids? I’m not saying Nico has been a terrible captain but they just need a total complete reset one of the ways no captain next year.

I’m not going to act like I know coaches because I don’t but reading the takes on “retreads” is funny. This board and the takes I heard about other coaches being hired comical.

I don’t know who they get but it better not be a rookie or someone young. I don’t care if he’s coached 1 team or 10 teams. Just get someone in here that is hard as hell on the players have them commit to play all aspects of the game that’s all I ask.

Nico is exactly the type of player the rest of the team should be modeling, and you want the C taken from him? I can virtually guarantee he is not the problem here.

Whatever they are doing now isn’t working and if the story is right and there are issues in the room then just wipe it totally clean.

I wonder if Sullivan wouldn't go to Dubas and say, "lt might be best if we just end this now".

Cause Pitt is likely not going turn this around any time soon.

Meanwhile, for as much as some fans might be questioning the core here in NJ, I think coaches would see this as as an amazing career opportunity.

Nico’s style of play doesn’t make him a good locker room captain. Working hard doesn’t earn you a C. My washing machine works hard

What?

What makes for a good captain then?

LOL Two months ago you thought a goalie was all this team needed. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say your proposed solution is not the answer.

and Fitz said Ruff was safe like what, a month before he was canned? The comments from a GM mean nothing.

change your name to "Strip Nico of the C" so he can then go on a run, thanks!

(in all seriousness, what a ridiculous thing to say)

So you’re saying goalie wasn’t a problem?
Oh now you’re going to play coy. I’m saying the same thing I’ve said for a long time - this team was never a new goalie away from being significantly better. I wouldn’t even say it’s their biggest problem.

First you thought a goalie would be the difference maker. Now you think stripping the captain hood from one of the few players on this team that plays the right way is the thing to do.

Your track record of suggestions is poor.

Sure it isn’t. Goalie was and still is a problem. I’m pretty sure I never said it was the only problem but certainly one of the easier and quickest to address. As for the locker room? I mean if it’s being reported of possible problems I dunno guess it’s not just me. Other then that good post bruh

Do we think there will be another coach available with as recent a cup win as Sullivan?
Berube is available now, but I’m not sure I think he’s good. I’m skeptical he’s any good.

And I don’t blame him for the decline in St. Louis, but I just kind of think he caught fire with Yeo getting fired and him already being an assistant there and becoming interim head coach after that.

Pete DeBoer couldn't even get into the playoffs with a core of Elias, Jagr, and Brodeur - what a chump. Maybe, just maybe, the Penguins all aging into obsolesence combined with Hextall's mismanagement have not helped the coaching staff at all.

Still think it is the top-down catering to the Hughes golden boys. They are allowed to run rampant without any accountability. That has to be fixed. But I have serious doubts it will be.

To continue the conversation from yesterday’s GDT that I didn’t get a chance to comment on last night, this is probably no less than the third most disappointing season I can remember.

The only others were the obvious 10-11 season and 95-96 was definitely completely disappointing. We were the first cup winner to miss the playoffs the next year in like 20-something years I think. It’s been done several more times since. And to miss the playoffs on the last day of the season with a loss to Ottawa? Every time we lose to one of these COC loser suck teams this year I get flashbacks to that loss against Ottawa. Which was also at home. It was also quite fitting that one of the guys from the cup team who wasn’t on that team scored two goals against us that day.

And there were a few players on that team who weren’t here the year before and I couldn’t stand some of them. Steve Thomas is one of my most hated Devils ever. We went 3-0 in playoff series against his teams after he left, which always made me happy and I loved denying that loser a cup at the end of his career. After all the shit he talked that round to the media.

96-99 were all pretty disappointing. I think I’d still say I’m more disappointed with this season than all of those other than 96.
