So Erica is coming back? Gotta say I’m not happy about that. I wasn’t a fan of Matt the first time around but man the second time him covering for her definitely was rock solid. Maybe it’s just good memories of childhood devils games but wish he would stick

I’m more curious if 5x5 is reasonable/possible for Severson.
I think $5 million for Graves might be a bit too much, but Severson is worth it IMO. We have Luke and Nemec coming up obviously but I don't expect them to replace the defensive value Graves and Severson bring next year. Its a tough decision to weigh in terms of the long-term cap management effects of making a commitment to one.

If the plan is to play Nemec in Utica next year, you have the following 3 years of him on an ELC which would make it easier to absorb the next contract for one of Graves or Severson.

We are probably lucky to have Siegs and Marino on team friendly terms so that does help, but either way I think we are keeping one or none of Graves and Severson.

Graves will have 4.5+ easily on the market if will not wait weeks for more, Sevs will have 5.5-6+ for 5+ years if will sign a deal in the first few days on the market. Just look how much money Gudbrannson and Chiarot have. Sevs and Graves are good second pair defensemen, Sevs can play 1 pair duties if he has good partner.

I think Graves is very underrated but my max offer is probably 4 years at 4.5 million. I doubt he takes that because someone probably gives him 5x5 or more.

I’m more curious if 5x5 is reasonable/possible for Severson.

What's the long term need? We have Dougie, Marino and Nemec/Hughes all locked up.

Another benefit to getting Meier would be getting an improved 5th option on PP1. Looking at Jack's production, he doesn't have the same production as some of the other top players in the league on the PP. An improve PP unit would help IMO and obviously help us win more games.

These last few weeks have dealt a crushing blow to the “iT wAs ThE dEfEnSe” people. We’ve been worse defensively than we were last year and the goalies are crushing it rather than being crushed

Hughes leads the league in even strength goals and is 5th in goals overall. Pretty good for a player with a supposed muffin shot.

Almost like if you get a goal scorer you put them with Nico instead because Jack is Mr Goal Scorer

I posted the stats yesterday, but the xGA/60 and HDCA/60 are almost identical to what they were last year

What about just over the last month where the defense has cratered? The season totals are propped up by the first half where we were the best defensive team in the league. Recently we’ve been one of the worst but the saves are still coming

It’s not all him, and his play dipped some before getting hurt, but the chart watchers certainly under-valued Marino’s presence on the defense.

IMO we lost Marino, Siegenthaler turned into a pumpkin, Graves has always been pretty bad but for some reason has gotten overrated recently, and Severson started out well but has tailed off as the minutes piles on. That leaves us with one defenseman actually plying well

Get Marino back, get Luke in the lineup, reduce 28’s minutes and pray that Siegenthaler figures it out.
