GMs hire guys they've worked with before as advisors all the time. Nobody has any clue how much influence they actually have. I doubt it's very much though. Probably not enough to actually give a shit about.
Yea. Guy hiring his buddy. That's obvious. Like Robitaille giving Bergevin a title.
Still warrants the jokes though. 😃

Atleast Stan Bowman won 3 Cups.
Hughs is new. If he leaves the Habs , then his next team in a mess than we can compare him to Fletcher.
Who else did they interview before deciding on Fletcher.....JFJ , Bergevin and Milbury? 🤣
Yeah, M Jackson released so many good albums. 3 Сups heeey. And I like that newbie Hughes who lost his chance to create potentially the best offensive group in the league, gets an excuse. Who cares about... may be the worst fvcked up in the last 10 years on the draft. All this is not as scary as hiring a person with a wealth of experience in mistakes for the role of an adviser.

Michael Jackson 🤣🤣🤣🤣

But I hear ya pal.
Many of us questioned the the same thing with Cliff Fletcher and all the losers working for the Toronto Maple.
But is was crickets out of T.O and the league.
Dryden tried to do the right thing when it was thrown on his desk years later.
Fletcher went right on working in the NHL (and in Toronto)

He allowed a sexual predator to stay on his staff and preying on a player (and sexually harassing other employees) so not to disrupt that first cup. Only a true winner would do something like that.

Are you talking about the first time Cliff was the Leafs GM? Or the second time when he was an interim GM for 10 months?

Fletcher was two years removed from a cup with the Flames, as well as a finals appearance a few years before that. I’m not sure how anyone could think that was a controversial hire in 1991.

In 2008? Yeah, that was probably because he was already in the old boys Leafs club and had been the GM there before. He was interim for an entire offseason, which is rare that an interim lasts that long. He was already in his 70s at the time, which was ancient for a GM before Lou got to be that old and continued doing it.

I’m thinking they were tampering with Brian Burke the entire time, who controversially left the Ducks shortly after the start of the season (just a year after a cup win) and then took the Leafs job shortly after.

That was a hell of a lot more controversial than Brent Sutter stepping down as head coach here in the offseason because he was home sick, only to take the head coaching job from the team his brother is the GM for two weeks later. At least that was in the offseason. They both happened around the same time.

NHL is all about the same people. If we will check how many new coaches find work in the last 15 years in NHL - league of 32 teams, we will be surprised.
Every fan of the Devils organisation shout about fire goalie coach Rogalski but from everything we heard he is still working with organisation.
And Bowman now is having job as GM. After everything we know.

So Im not really care until Fletcher will have bigger role. He isnt the worst in organisation, we still have good specialists in organisation, he is not the worsest person in the league.

Do I like his hire? Am... no.

not sure controversial hire.......a controversial not fired by his team and not suspended by the league.
It's well known what Fletcher did and did not do when he was given the info.

Yea. Sounds like the NHL

Tell me this is a joke!?
Devils hired Fletcher as assistant to the GM.

Can't wait to hear the Devils and Flyers fans have a field day with this one.

As it turns out, even a quick look at the Flyers' pipeline indicates he was a lot more astute as evaluating and acquiring young players than they thought he was.

Except that he wasn't.
If his last name wasn't Fletcher ... never would have heard of him

That poster seems to play the heel around here lol. He also doesn't think goaltending was a problem for the Devils last year lol.

And apparently hasn't paid attention to the ''Field day(s)'' that we've been having the last 4 or 5 days since the hire was made in this thread lol. I can think of probably about 15-20 posts he hasn't seen, as most of the posts I've been making in the last few days when I get a chance to even be on the internet are about that.

Astute is actually a very interesting word. One I don't think I've read here all too often since Devils Dominion was here.

While I'm not at all bothered by this hire for us and I believe it will have absolutely zero consequence for the Devils, he was a complete and absolute joke in Philly. And nothing particularly good in Minnesota.

Fitz has done good this offseason. 'Good' to 'excellent' requires he trades Siegenthaler for a 3C.

He has 1 month.

You're not concerned that the Devils once again go into the season with no true #1 defenseman?

Would have thought that would've been the top priority. Seems like for the most part they've shuffled the deck chairs on the Titanic. While spending more money to do so.

I don't even think we should trade Siegs this offseason even if we were willing to. Let's see how he plays next to Dougie and give him a chance to rebuild some value.

Right now you wouldn't be getting much of a 3C for him.

HATE to have a top 15 defenseman on my team and two more guys with that potential who are bonafide quality NHL regulars despite being too young to drink

My mistake. Let me rephrase that. A top defenseman who defends.

Couple of questions for you:

1) How many total true #1 DMen do you think there are in the NHL?
2) How often are true #1 DMen traded? How often are true #1 DMen signed in free agency?

I know you hate Luke Hughes, but guess what? Him and Nemec are the 2 best U-21 DMen in the entire sport. That is not opinion....that is fact. I am sorry this bothers you so much.

I think we're okay on defense. I'm more interested in trading defensive value (Siegs) for more center support (Yanni Gourde 😏)

You say that like that's a common thing, unless you think players Makar and Hughes are good at defending or something.

I was fine with it until the Fletcher thing happened. Just really soured my opinion on him. I don't care if he ends up being a nothing, he shouldn't even have been hired, period.
