should be a good stopgap until Gritsyuk can come in (maybe at the end of the season) -- and gives the Devils a way to accrue cap space come trade deadline and at that time they can probably acquire a good winger at a cheaper cost than it is to acquire one now

Yep and he wasn't anything special to begin with, $1.8m seems like a drastic overpay for the player Tatar is at this point his career.

Honestly we'd be better off playing Cotter in the top 6 than Tatar.
