I'm with you on this. To me we should play 1 western conference division on the road and then the other at home and then you reverse it the next season.
It makes too much sense. For the Devils, it could be:

16 games against West (1 each)
42 games against Metro (6 each)
24 games against Atlantic (3 each)

For a grand total of, you guessed it. 82 games. If you do that, it’ll re-ignite rivalries and you can scrap the divisional playoffs.

The current schedule is set up so each team plays in each building once. But geographically most of the teams can be paired up so that you visit one or the other every year, so local fans could always see their teams if that’s what you’re concerned about.

For instance, pair up LA/Anaheim, Vancouver/Seattle, and Vegas/Utah. In any given year, the Devils play at least one away game at either LA or Anaheim and Vancouver and Seattle. So any Devils fans nearby could make the trip to either city in any given year. There are some outliers like San Jose and Dallas in this scenario, but I think it could definitely work.

I think some of the takes on FA/Early Offseason are fair. I think it would easily have been an A if we nabbed Marchessault instead of just missing... and can get there with a trade that includes Bastian out (for $) and a prospect for someone like Hartman or similar to fill the one gap we have in the top 6. It makes the 3rd and 4th line more well rounded and more impactful.

Personally, I would want to sign one of Tarasenko or Ondrej Kase. I think those are the two best players left in free agency.

Barring that, Devils would probably need to go to the trade market or just resort to looking for PTOs like Tatar or Vrana or Labanc. See if they can find someone who fits in.

Filmon is doing exactly what everyone wanted him to do last season, didn't put up as much points as the season before but worked on becoming a more complete player. So more PK and better in the defensive zone. He's also trying to fill out his body. Really wants to have a good camp and make the team but is okay with getting some guidance and heading down to Utica. He's practicing in Winnipeg with Seth Jarvis and Cody Glass.

Maybe if he has a good camp he can play with Jack for a bit. A lot of His goals in Swift Current were him being sneaky and finding open spots for a easy goal. That type of player would fit with Jack pretty well.

I think Fitz watched the same playoffs we did and came to the same conclusion: the Devils as they were constructed in 2023-24 wouldn't have survived against the Panthers (or even the Rangers).

It feels like he's trying to build a team that could win the Cup next year. I know that's always the goal, but Pesce, Kovacevic, Cotter - these feel like moves you make when you've got a contender.

Which - good for him. I'm not certain the Devils are a Cup contender quite yet, but I'm excited that the GM is setting the bar that high.
eh.

I still think the Devils would've been able to take on the Rags.

But the Panthers would've annihilated them unfortunately.

Meanwhile, Tyler Brennan has those sleepy eyes.
