All this pizza talk has really given me a craving for mussels. Not in the moules-frites kind of way, Italian style.

I haven't had mussels in sauce in such a long time. That used to be a staple in every pizza place in northern NJ and I don't seem to hear people talk about it anymore.

haha howd pizza talk = mussel cravings
Because that used to be my typical order from my pizza place...

Pizza or a calzone and mussels. Mostly a calzone and mussels.

That's another super underrated thing that almost no one talks about anymore...a good calzone is pure gold.

If you like ricotta and mozzarella gooey goodness, could take or leave red sauce a good calzone is hard to beat.

Damnit, I'm fasting right now and making my life very difficult.

Edit: looking at the images on Google, it appears people don't know how to make them anymore either....the images that are out there look absolutely nothing like the calzones I ate all over northern NJ in the 80's.

Nothing at all. The images I'm seeing look more like empanadas or stromboli than a calzone.

Feel like I know exactly the type of calzone you're describing.

Used to be this shitty bagel+pizza place in my hometown called Lakeside. Pizza was like the 7th best within 10 minutes, bagels were mid as f***, but god DAMN did they do a fine calzone. huge, overflowing with cheese, just the right level of crispyness.

Since closed and turned into some cafe I am sure is fine, but I will never forgive.

One thing with Dougie coming back, and I’m sure a large portion of this board might call this sacrilege, but I’d install him immediately back on PP1. Hughes was good as a QB, but they should be featuring Dougie’s shot.

Stick Hughes on the second unit and bring Meier along to trigger from the circle. Too many cooks on PP1 and Meier getting supplanted by Jack neuter’s Timo’s presence on the power play and it’s a huge part of his game.

Exactly! When you cut it half the cheese oozes out like white molten lava!

One of the things that I've enjoyed most about the Devils for the last few seasons is watching Dougie shoot.

We had a place in Buffalo when I was in college called Zonies. They was only open 8pm-4am on Thurs/Fri/Sat, only did delivery, and only made calzones. They definitely knew their audience.

You haven't lived until you've come home from a college bar hammered on $3 shots of well liquor (bars in Buffalo close at 4 am if you didn't know), and buried your face into a hot, fresh, cheesey calzone. PREMIUM drunk food, absolutely elite college experience.

The normal serving size was a half a pound, but you could "pound it" for $1 and get a double portion. I would always get the chicken parm calzone, pounded, with extra ricotta and a double side of sauce.

They had a breakfast calzone with scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and maple syrup on the side. They had desert calzones with cheesecake and various fruits. You could get anything in a calzone - cheeseburger, baked potato, enchilada, philly cheesesteak, fettucine alfredo, rueben, pesto. Anything you could ask for.

It's closed now but I ate a pounder almost every Saturday/Sunday my senior year. The only problem was staying awake and not falling asleep while waiting for delivery.

I'm with you on Dougie. I do want to see Timo on PP1 though, as well. Not sure what the best deployment would be overall, but I would like to see Dougie back there. I'm sure Luke learned quite a bit last year manning it for the majority of the season, but he doesn't provide that unique weapon (yet) that Dougie does being back there. Not only does he shoot well from the point, he shoots hard and on target.

Don't you think Timo makes sense for a net front presence?

It's tricky because he has shown he can fire one-timers from the right side as well. Net front probably makes the most sense traditionally. Nico in bumper, Bratt and Jack on the wings with Dougie up top. I wonder if Keefe will provide any new strategies there.

As pointed out just above me too, I know Noesen did a phenomenal job in the net front role in Carolina. I wonder if he'll find himself there.

Sadly, I'm not a huge fan of Nico in the bumper (or on PP1 actually). Maybe I'd try Timo there instead.

I am still with you, meaning alive, I hope I can stay that way for this season with the Devils.

I am still excited about our playoff hopes. Here is a positive I enjoyed reading so I thought I would share. I hope your summer went well.

Let's Go Devils meaning deep into the playoffs.
I want the Devils to not only go deep into the playoffs, but win it all....FOR YOU.

I think he has value there, but if there are forward moves to make on PP1, I can see him being the first one out. Can’t see Jack or Bratt coming off the top unit and Timo offers more potentially with his size and shot.
