That's the big difference. If the point is to call out the Rags for not having a pulse, that's fine.

Vally took it a step further and whined like Jack was somehow in the wrong here.

PK said it best: He brought into question Jack's character. It's just such a brain dead take. I think most of the former players union is trying to save him from himself by saying things that actually make sense and trying to convince us that's "what he was trying to say". But it's clear he was making no sense and it's unlikely what he was thinking in his head made sense either. It was a whiny take by a snowflake of a person with the mental capacity and emotional control of a child. I hate that so many people like this these days have such big platforms...

I'll even simplify it: it was the take of a complete and utter homer, which is something a good broadcast should be trying to avoid.

The Mets' SNY booth has historically gotten grief from players who are all "wait, why are our own guys criticizing us during the game?", but fans love them for it; in this case, Vally clearly didn't have it in him to call out the Rangers for being so passive and lifeless, so he had to make it into trying to crap on Jack, instead, since directly criticizing "his team" is a bridge too far for him. Unfortunately for him, he ended up crapping his own pantaloons, instead.

I honestly think Valiquette blames Jack Hughes for his awful take on Jack Hughes at the 2019 draft. It's pretty immature behavior for an NHL analyst. The correct response would have been to call out the Rangers for allowing 5 or 6 breakaways and odd-man rushes in the 1st period alone, not to double down on the worst call of your career a half-decade prior.

No point discussing this too much longer, PK Subban nailed it on the head and what Valiquette said was not pejorative enough to dwell on or obsess over. The Devils (and their fans) need to get past it and focus on getting a big 2 points vs. Seattle on Friday.
