At least we got a point against the pesky Devils. I'm becoming cautiously optimistic about the rest of the season. Who knows, perhaps we will go on a run like the St.Louis did back in 2019. It was a marvelous season for them, and I'm sure that the initial struggles made winning it all taste even better.

This is definitely more stat watching than watching them closely, but the Graves-Desharnais pair actually seems pretty effective so far. It's criminally overpaid for what it is, but I feel like that's a perfectly acceptable bottom pair to play 15-17 minutes a night.

This would make sense to me. When Graves was effective in New Jersey, it was actually as the more offensive-minded defenseman with a more defensively-sound partner.
That Graves would struggle with being the defensive conscience for a Letang or Karlsson was disappointing, but wasn't a huge shock to me.

Of all the "issues" the team has, Glass isn't one of them. He's perfectly fine for what he's being asked to do. Is he a 2C? Probably not. Certainly not one on a good team. He is an okay fill-in 2C for this Pens roster, yes.

He has put up good faceoff numbers but I'm not convinced he should be a centre. Try and turn him into a 3rd line winger with good speed who can PK.

Tanger has been cooked for awhile… stinks with how hard he works.

Kinda feels like he was a 1D one day then an old fart the next. Not really much of a grace period lol.

Brian Dumoulin, warts and all in his final couple of seasons here, was valuable primarily because he let Letang "get to his game".

He needs a partner like that, but we have absolutely nobody on the roster who can fill Dumo's shoes now (it was need #1 in the offseason and Dubas punted by signing a lefthanded PP specialist instead), and by the time Pickering is ready to even try to be Dumo 2.0 it will be too late for Letang.

Gryz, though hardly alone, has resurrected the power play this year, but a solid defensive LD capable of playing 23 minutes a game would have been a better acquisition.
