Proposal: Devils need a goal scorer.

artemi panarin scored 120 pts last year. he is most definitely worth 2 prospects lol, one of which (nemec) hasnt lived up to his draft position so far

I'll ask the question one more time.

When is the last time a 33 year old player returned that type of value?

Nemec had a very strong rookie season. Not sure how we can make any judgments on him whatsoever either way?

If Palat would waive there is probably a fit for PIT to do Rakell or Rust for Palat in the offseason if NJ adds some type of prospect.

Something like Rakell at 50% + 3rd for Palat and Casey.

Also would be open to Rakell or Rust at 50% straight up for Mercer.

nah, that type of move makes no sense from NJ's point of view

rather just attach a 2nd or something to Palat to dump him and use the cap space. Casey should not be dumped in a trade like that.

I honestly think it's going to cost a lot more, but then again San Jose took on Goodrow and Anaheim took Trouba for nothing.

Casey is probably too rich. I'd settle for Karpovich and Vilen. Would want a pick too though.

Rust or Rakell at 50% for Palat, Karpovich / Vilen and a 2nd.

Timo isn't that guy?

The real problem is that if the top two lines aren't generating, or are getting goalied, they are getting absolutely nothing from the bottom 6 right now.

Erik Haula seems to have really bottomed out. Paul Cotter hasn't looked right for a hot minute and may be playing through some pain. Lazar has been hurt but not exactly an offensive dynamo anyway.

Timo isn't worth the trade / contract right now in production, but I believe he is second on the devils forwards in expected goals % at 5 on 5, second for devils forwards in expected goals per 60, first for devils forwards in shots per 60 (not a surprise....always been a volume guy), and third in high danger shots per 60. So he's doing his thing and the process is more or less there. Hit shooting percentage is about 2-3% lower than his previous couple of years so he's short 2-3 goals he should have base on the play and the shooting. He hasn't lived up to the move, but he hasn't been a problem or anything.

It hasn't happened because a 33 year old player of Panarin's level has rarely, if ever, been traded. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean that the actual value is lower.

Maybe not both Silayev and Nemec, but at the very least one of them would have to be included to get a player of Panarin's calibre back. Panarin is a top 5 player in the NHL since 2021. He scored 96, 92, and 120 points all past the age of 30. You are dramatically underselling the level of player he is.

okay I will play along

if he is so great, why does Bern (and other Rangers fans from what I've seen) want to dump him so badly?

Panarin is not the direction NJ should go, and it would never happen anyways. Not even really worth discussing anymore.

Because the Rangers are a dumpster fire and probably should rebuild instead of trying to win with this corrupted core?

Panarin would be the Devils best or 2nd best offensive player almost instantly, and would propel them to a cup win likely within 1-3 years.

Panarin-Hughes-Bratt
Meier-Hischier-Noesen

Crazy top 6 to go with an elite defense.

Honestly, this one isn't that hard because they are most likely not going to add "big money" and they probably aren't going to add big term at the deadline.

So throw a dart at just about any middle six goal scoring winger that goes for a second or 2 + 3 and that'll likely be that.

They should have Gritsyuk coming over for next year (I think in theory he could come over this year, but I'm not sure how likely that is) and I'd wager that they'd like to see what they have there.

No wonder everyone laughs at your posts, that’s not even close to reality.

NJ - 3 lottery picks
NYR - 2 lottery picks
@AirGut guess you didn’t like how bad your post was. Being off by close to 300% on lottery picks, you make it too easy dude 😂

Not even close to reality? What reality are you in right now? Anyways, the Vatrano suggestion was the only good suggestion in this thread.
8 is not even close to 3 🤣

Sharongovich. He’s not having a great year but he can shoot with the best of them. Not sure what the ask would be. Looked like a perennial 30 goal guy last year. Got injured in the last preseason game and just hasn’t been the same this year.

Or you can have Kuzmenko for a 4th and hope he rediscovers his game.
Sharangovich would be amazing.

You've been on this site since 2005 and in that time since, you've managed to miss the amount of top-16 picks New Jersey has had in the past decade?
The problem is you said lottery picks.

Do you have an offer in mind?
Not really, if we get to that point it would just be the best possible return. Would obviously hope that some team offers a first, probably ends up being a 2nd+ or something. Maybe a prospect that can make the leap sooner if it makes sense.

a lottery pick, is when one of the lottery balls picks your team.
Not missing the playoffs.

When you miss the playoffs and have a 1st rounder you are in the lottery, I.e., a lottery pick. I don't know why you're so finicky with me sometimes Jet. Are you stalking me?

Devils do not need more "goal-scorers", they've had an embarrassment of riches thanks to said top picks over the years. What they need more of is jitterbug type players in the bottom-6. Like I said earlier though Vatrano is a really good fit for NJ if they're really that desperate for a "goal-scorer".

I'll throw in some other names I think the Devs should go after that fit the mold of what I'm talking about,

-Jake Evans
-Mason Appleton
-Yanni Gourde
-Brandon Tanev
-Trent Frederic
-Jordan Greenway

We’ll disagree on that one then, no problem.
A lottery pick is getting first or second pick in my books, 16th is not a lottery pick. You think opposite.

But I won’t argue semantics with you on that one, if you had said NJ had missed playoffs 8 out of 10 times, would of made more sense imo.

Panarin, 5+ of his 11.6+ retained, cap hit = 6 per x 2
Berard, elc, electric speed, great shot, but small

for
rights to Silayev
Nemec
acceptable draft pick
acceptable cap dump from you ok

Vats is a great get and solid on paper, but supposedly he is happy there and they w/him.
That will add to cost of acquisition.
Also ANA has done fab rebuild job but few sniper-scorers, so if Vats goes, has to be enuf profit going forward to justify step backwards
Bern really Silayev and Nemec wouldn’t get either for Bread be real…

Devils ain't getting anything until the deadline barring injury. And then it's the greed/go-for-the-cup type deal. Personally I'd rather keep the picks to supplement the forward core in 2-3 years when people start leaving for more money or aging.
