It's not a huge stretch to think they can go winless the rest of the way.
Unlikely but would not be shocking.

 that is a huge stretch. They'll start winning again before the end of the season. Whether or not that will happen before, or after they are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention remains to be seen however

I miss Zach, I really do. I've watched the team bleed superstars through the years and gotten over it faster than this. I think all the losing just adds salt to the wound.

Really annoyed about the fact that Elias had a sure goal denied by a trip on his shootout attempt. We'll end up missing the playoffs by 1 point.

I had a group of 4 obnoxious fat drunk whores behind me screaming for fights all game.

Lol sorry to hear. Thats why I never go to games in opposing teams barns that were playing in. I dont care how gracious opposing teams fans are, I just have a REALLY tough time controlling my anger when someone talks crap about me or my team. It's like that for every sport. My 2 favorite sports teams are the Devils and Packers and when someone say some **** about them I get pissed. I have some anger management issues

I just don't get why this team plays for the shootout. Not one bit of extended pressure in the five minute OT. We didn't go 5 minutes the whole first 60 without pinning them in their zone except for that 5 minute OT. How many shootouts do they have to lose before they try winning a game in OT?

in Tampa I was never treated bad, but the arena was like 30% Devils fans last time I went

Hoping to move back up to NJ eventually so I can go to Prudential Center again. By the time I get back up there the team will probably be in full rebuild mode though. Oh well, cheap tickets! #glasshalffulltypeofguy

Curious to know what everyone thinks shoulda been the ruling on that trip? Just a re-shot for Elias? If that's the case it.doesn't even matter I guarantee he wouldn't have scored

zajac has been acting out lately because he's frustrated. taking dumb penalties every game.

I'd like to see Volchenkov, Ponikarovsky, and D'Agostini gone next season. All three have been mediocre

Patty has been stuck on like 15 OT goals since December of 2008. Maybe Marty being stuck on 666 wins will last 4+ years too!:sarcasm:

if the team is done before the end of the season, I'd keep Kovy out (its a no brainer, I know, but I've learned to expect the unexpected with NJ this season)

That's one of the big reasons I stopped going to games. Imagine the smug bandwagon drunk attitude of the home fans AND the Devils losing every game you go to. It's a horribly depressing combination.

He would have scored the first time though I bet. Yeah it should have been a do over, but no point in being upset over that. They need to go into the OT periods with the mentality that they stink in the shootout this year. It doesn't look like that really have done that this year. Either that or they get penalized during OT and have to spend 2 minutes killing off a 4 on 3 PP.

D'Agostini can come back, but on a two way contract. He'll get a two way just like Josefson will. Poni I can take or leave. It can't hurt to re sign him at $1.5 million for a year cause I would like Matteau to spend a full year in Albany. We all remember though what happened to the last veteran forward who was a healthy scratch. He wasn't offered a contract the next year. Poni being a healthy scratch shows me they really don't NEED him that much. It's not like he's got a bunch of quality forwards to be replaced with either like the defensemen do. Especially when he's getting scratched over Tom Kostopolous.

The Kremlin Kone needs to go. The sooner the better. Buy him out please Hucksterbeek. Throw the bum out.

If D'Agostini has any problem with a two-way contract, I'd trade his rights so that NJ doesn't have to forfeit that extra draft pick from the original trade. He has enough offensive production in his past to fetch a decent price, imo.

Poni should definitely get a $1.5M offer and he can take it or walk. He's bounced around the league for a reason. He's replaceable.

I hope Kosto is just gone. I wish I could say Barch could be gotten rid of, but I bet Lou/Pete want him around as the token meatbag.

Volch needs to be bought out, but I'm not sure if the team can afford that large a payout. Might want to do a trade with the Devils retaining a portion of the payroll as incentive for someone to take him off Lou's hands. The team needs D that can skate, not that bucket of lard.

I think the Kremlin Kone buyout might come next Summer when he has just 2 years remaining on his contract, and not 3. I could almost see Tallinder being bought out at the end of this year. Not because he's worth than Suckchenkov, but because he'd be easier to get rid of that way. It might be an easier hit to take the way Colin White was.

I wouldn't mind Kosto back if it means NEVER seeing Cam Janssen back on this team again. Please no more of him unless it's to play in the AHL. Kosto and Barch would be alright as 13th and 14th forwards.

More likely to see Volchenkov traded with 50% retained salary for nothing (read: 7th round pick).

A team would probably take him and that way you don't have VBK paying out the full amount in one go like he would with an amnesty buyout. Would only be responsible for 50% over the remaining 3 years.

Can you retain salary but not cap hit? Not like it really matters because we won't be a ceiling team while his cap hit would still count 50%.

wait until the devs are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs...that's when we'll suddenly see urgency, goal scoring, hitting, balls...that will be the perfect ending to this season....now we'll go undefeated the rest of the year. You're welcome :help:

I forgot that the compliance buyouts will still be available in Summer 2014, too. That'll probably be the better option if he can't be traded.

Kosto and Barch as the first option if players go down with injury? Injuries WILL happen to every team, every year, so I'd rather have callups filling those spots and getting a chance to get their feet wet than waste it on those two goons, imo.

"When trading a player, a team has the option of retaining a portion of that player's contract, paying the salary and taking the salary cap hit for that portion. The remaining portion of the contract is charged to the player's new team. "

50% is a lot to retain, though. Especially for a contract of over $4M/yr. I think bleedred's idea of waiting to buy him out until 2014 is the more reasonable solution. Gotta hope he earns his pay next season.

I hate bringing this guy up again cause it's in the past, and he ain't ever coming back. Remember the run with Lemaire? We went to overtime A LOT under him during that 3 month run in 2011. How many of those games went to a shootout? I can only remember just one. It was a game against the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum which we won after like 8 rounds or something. It was a long one. And then there was one with Pittsburgh in which Marty and MAF got dual shutouts, but we lost in the shootout. That was in late March after the team had run out of gas.

I remember so many OT games back then, and the team took care of business in OT. Kovy had a few OT winners, Tedenby had an OT winner, even Salmela had an OT winner. We also lost 2 games to the Deboer coached Panthers around that time in OT.

I would too, but they only wind up calling up Tim Sestito anyway. Pesonen got a chance, but not really any better options. I'm just afraid we sign Janssen again, and if we don't have 8 defensemen next year then he will be on the roster full time, rather than in the AHL.:help: Kostopolous is an improvement over Janssen other than his fighting skills. He can actually set foot on the ice during a PK, and isn't a total liability. He possesses no offense, but neither does Janssen.

Barch ain't going anywhere though cause he's got another year. I think he'll break the Peters and Boulton trend and actually finish his two years.

With the exception of having 8 dman, cue me in on the "awful decisions" he has made. I bet I can refute most, if not all of them, with logic. Not trying to pick on you, but hate that people blame Lou for EVERYTHING

Keeping the #29 pick when we have to forfeit a first rounder was awful. Inexplicable and inexcusable.
