Kind of. But don't let the score deceive completely.

It was a 1 goal game coming into the 3rd period. They gave up an early 3rd period goal off a point shot which pushed it back to 2 goal deficit.

So in a way it was a very close game until that point. NJD had chances in both 2nd and 3rd period to claw back, but they didn't overwhelm at any point other than the beginning of the 1st and small parts of 3rd.

I don't think they overwhelmed them at all in the 3rd. They did a bit in the 2nd at pts for short spurts but idk even know if you can call that overwhelming. In the 1st they overwhelmed them with puck possession the first 10ish minutes but couldn't convert any of that into looks

Shitty thing is the schedule gets tight again for Thanksgiving week
It does, but at least they're home for a while and when they travel they don't have to go far. That should help plenty for rest/practice time.

From November 21st to December 14th, we play 12 games, including 9 at home. Our 3 games on the road are in Washington, Detroit and NY. That's not a lot of travel. That stretch should help.

Welp hopefully they figure out how to play at home then.

Luke couldn't pull out 3 straight games leading the way in xG% because of Dowling 73% which came from a total combined xG of 0.11. He did finish 2nd though at 63% and yet again looked like the best Devil on the ice. 62% CF and 71% xG across the 3 games.

MacDermid finishes with a 1-18 Corsi, 0-7 shots, 0-7 scoring chances, 0-4 high danger chances. A whopping 1.03% xG with 0.01-0.96

The Haula line has been getting outscored for a while and they were on the ice for the first 2 goals tonight.

A tight game and one we could have won with a break here or there. A good effort but not what I would call a desperate effort. We were maybe a little self satisfied with our sweep in Sunrise, time on the golf course, and had started believing our rave reviews? But nothing to complain about. I’ll certainly take 2 out of 3 on this trip. It’s a long season.

We need to get better at the dump and chase game when the hockey equivalent of “the beautiful game” isn’t there. The 3d and 4th lines also need to do more heavy lifting at times like that.

The shutout stuff feels a bit overkill to me. We've been shutout a few times, it happens. I'm not worried about the offense at all. We've been shutout 4 times last year, 1 more time than we've been so far this year, but our GF/60 is higher than last year at all strengths.

Dillon-Dougie need their ice time cut even further. They've been dropped to the 3rd pair and are at least even in goals there but 15:30 and 15 minutes at 5v5 is still too much for them. Ride the top 4 more and shelter these 2 hard. Tonight they rode Luke hard but from Pesce at 2nd in ice time to Siegs at 6th they all ranged from 15:46 to 14:16.

That's because the PP is insane. It's not always going to bail you out. As you posted earlier they're very middle of the pack creating offense at 5v5. Obviously middle of the pack generally won't translate to 3 shutouts in 21 games but it does need to be a lot better

Nah, could easily go on a run if we get in, just as any other team can. Far worse teams have.
Dont disagree they can go on a run. The Mets just went on one with a much worse roster comparatively, in a sport with less luck-based odds

But would I put my money on the Devils making the conference finals this season? Probably not. Some other teams have been knocking at the door for some time now.

The core had a taste of the playoffs and even won a series 2 years ago. That is already invaluable. Their additions this offseason also bring a wealth of experience in the playoffs. We’ll see. Get to the playoffs first and you never know. Still lots of work to do
Agree with you there. But one (very fun) playoff run is really nothing compared to how many extended runs teams go on before breaking out and making the Finals, let alone winning it.

Plus Carolina mopped em up at the end lol

Yeah the Haula line has been f***ing atrocious. Cotter-Haula together have a 36% CF and 38% xG since the Calgary game. I think I'd probably slide Bratt down there to try and get them stable. Maybe run something like this

Cotter-Jack-Noesen
Palat-Nico-Timo
Bratt-Haula-Mercer

Tatar's also gotten really good results away from the bums. That line is going to be an issue no matter who the 3rd guy is so might as well try sliding Palat back down there and moving Tatar back up and seeing just how much worse that 4th line ends up being and if it's worth the tradeoff Tatar could bring in the top 9.

I guess I wouldn’t want to mess with a good thing (Luke-Pesce), but Luke has been so solid defensively that I would feel comfortable trying him with Dougie. His recovery speed could help out that cone. And Dillon could use a safer partner like Pesce.

The Tatar-Nico-Mercer line wasn’t great together this year but I wouldn’t mind going back and trying it again. With Lazar-Nate gone and Haula’s line getting crushed, Nico’s line is going to have to carry a much larger load defensively. Tatar’s a strong defensive forward and Mercer’s been really good defensively this year. Timo has been too but you’re likely limiting him offensively forcing him into that role. Slide him down to Haula’s line. Maybe even with Bratt there as well and he might start giving you what you need out of him offensively

Where's the stat for the shutouts we've gotten? This team is stupid

And yet they're still averaging just under 3.5 goals a game. I'm not especially worried about the offense though at least it'll be easier to trade for help at the deadline if it comes to it than it would be if we needed D help or when we needed goalies.

Bro wtf. This schedule has been a joke for us for the first two months.
Goaltending showed up tonight but the team struggled on both ends of the ice. They still generated almost 30 shots on goal. I'm not sure how much fatigue played into this game but it's pretty clear the Devils have played 21 games while the rest of the league is basically at 15 to 18 games. Hopefully the next 5 days off can help them heal up some bumps and bruises but I don't think fatigue is an honest issue as to why they lost this game. Especially the way Keefe distributes icetime for all the players.
