Based on what? How many matchups do we not have the best player in? Vegas doesn’t agree with you either. Legitimate contender.

Based on consistency, durability and vet leadership.

After truly dominating the cup champs, we faced a team that played better defense in the neutral zone and took away our passes, and had a better goalie.

Kuch slammed Dillon, no penalty, and we weren't quite the same after that.

November games are nice, and I'm sure you're right to start crowing that we are contenders rn, but there's a lot of hockey left and there's a few teams in the East that could just wear us down before we win 4 games.

Lets see what we look like in March.

Theyre too young and inexperienced, with our best future defenseman being all below the ages of 22 and not even in the league

Our captain only turns 26 this season. Its not our time yet, but well surely get in line

How many actual 'Cup contenders' are there in the NHL and how are the Devils so far away from any of them? A lot of teams are good, not great. Hopefully we stay in the good pile and don't regress to bubble mediocrity.
I think the can and will stay above the "bubble " teams.

It's fine if we don't agree. They aren't going to win every single game and for a team with a new coach and a crazy schedule to start, playing good hockey regardless of the result is important in my eyes.

If they play solid hockey overall, they'll win more games than they'll lose, and that's what we've seen from them in the last 2-3 weeks. I expect that to keep on getting better as the team gels even more, as the schedule gets a bit more normal, and as they get more practice time.
This team can barely win three games in a row. It took them a year to do it. They haven’t won more than 3 in two seasons.

They aren’t playing good enough hockey. It’s inconsistent and that’s not good enough for a team with playoff hopes.

This team is a playoff team in my eyes with a chance to do some damage, but for the most part I agree with this.

I think I made a post last week about this group where I mentioned that I don't know if this is their year, but I like what they're building with Keefe and I like the young guys coming on. The future is bright as you said and I like what I'm seeing right now with this young core.

There's something to build with this group and staff.

What are talking about?

We were going to win 0-0?

The only maybe bad goal was 3rd one which happened half way through the 3rd period.

You don’t have spend the rest of your life seeing everything through the lens of your version of “Goalie Debate”.

We have two real goalies now. They’re old as f***, so we still have to figure out what to do at the position long term, but we’re set this season.
Shit. I went back and added the sarcasm emoji damnit. Sarcasm sarcasm sarcasm

The core had a taste of the playoffs and even won a series 2 years ago. That is already invaluable. Their additions this offseason also bring a wealth of experience in the playoffs. We’ll see. Get to the playoffs first and you never know. Still lots of work to do

I swear if you took 'lets trade for Vasilevsliy' and me bashing Markstrom after that performance seriously...wtf

I mean with it being said we need to make the playoffs first, having a murderous Atlantic matchup in the first round would concern me, we'd almost certainly be going up against one of Carolina, the Rangers or a souped-up Caps team in the first round.

This version of Tampa has proven absolutely nothing and has just as many question marks as we do. Hedman isn’t close to what he was when they were champions. Every single team has question marks right now. Health and who has a hot goalie/PP will determine who moves on as it usually does in the playoffs.

the Devils are:

6th in the league in goals scored per game
5th in the league in goals allowed per game
8th in the league in xG%
4th in the league on the PP
5th in the league on the PK
14th in the league in shots/game
7th in the league in shots allowed/game

to imply they aren't even good enough to be a playoff team is....kind of wild!

I disagree that they're not playing good enough, especially given the context. 7 out of their last 10 including a tough Western Canada road trip and a tough Florida road trip is plenty enough in my opinion. We don't have to agree on this, it's fine. We're all passionate about the team! Hopefully they go on a run soon with more practice time and some well needed rest.

They’re only 3 games above five hundred. Let me know when they can consistently win 3 games in a row or get 3+ a few times and I’ll consider them a playoff team.

Giving up six three-on-three goals in twelve games doesn't seem like 'that' many...the lack of offense is obviously causing the latter total.

It's not a lot. He's given up 6 goals on 7.59 xGA. They've scored 3 on 7.12. He's the one D so far that's underwater in xG%. Since they've come back Siegs-Kovy obviously dominant. 59% xGs and up 9-5 and 10-4 in goals. Dillon-Dougie at 52-53% xGs although I don't really care about the xGs for that pair since the chances they do end up giving up are egregious. They're each even in goals. Luke's got a 54% xG and down 2-5 in goals. Pesce 48% and down 3-6 in goals.

Nah, could easily go on a run if we get in, just as any other team can. Far worse teams have.

I don't really give a shit about arbitrary winning streak totals that you made up in your head

If a team wins 2 of every 3 games for the entire season, they'd have 108-110 points at the end of the year, and that isn't even accounting for loser points.
