When was the last time we had a goalie win us a game like this? It’s something a team needs to help snap out of a funk. Another win against the Rangers and we’re all the way back.

Well that didn't look great from the highlights but after an 0-4 skid you gotta start somewhere I guess.
They started awesome, the last 5-8 minutea of the first were very bad, but the 2nd and 3rd I thought we were the better team. Kraken didn’t get a lot of quantity in the last 2 periods, but the few looks they did have were good quality.

Overall, pretty solid game overall. Showed some fire, a lot of offensive chances, kept the Kraken under 25 shots and got out of the losing streak.

Having only caught up on the highlights, holy shit Jacob Markstrom. The whole team should be fanning the guy with palm leaves and feeding him grapes the entire flight home.

These guys still have no finish right now.

Glad Markstrom played good and stole us the game team needs that from the goaltending will allow them to play more loose....

Ok I went back and watched the whole game

The highlights make it look like Marky absolutely stole the game, but I don't think he did THAT much. He definitely was the difference between winning and not, but it's not like the Devils got shelled all game (in my opinion).

Devils had their share of generated puck dominance in this game but also their share of "how did we not give up more goals" and we traded rush chances with them for a bit. Some dicey moments, but we had also some good play where we deserved 2 more goals maybe.

Marky saved us from losing, but also Grubauer made some really good saves for Seattle.
The save on Timo was very good, for example.

Dano said something along the lines of, "This is the best goalie 5 goal total game I've ever seen"

I lied. I watched the first period up until the Larsson goal. I then went to sleep and when I woke up at 3 in the morning to feed the cats (those bastards wake me up earlier and earlier), I noticed they won 3-2.

Finish your goddamn chances, I don't care how wall-like the opposing goaltender is. We know this team's offensive peak. Tighten up the defense and stop giving up so many rush chances.

Do continue the excellent goaltending and the uptick in bottom-six production, though. Oh, and the winning.

They did not play poorly tonight.
eh, when they are playing well they limit chances, control play and are responsible defensively.

they won this game because markstrom made 2-3 save of the year candidates in the third period - they hemorrhaged quality scoring chances in a close game. it’s good that they came out ahead but they didn’t play a good game by their standards

If natural stat trick is to be believed the Devils only gave up 13 shots at five on five all game. The problem is 10 of them were high danger chances.

I don't think they played well, but they didn't play poorly. Everyone is just a step behind on everything and that's natural playing on a road trip where I believe each of their last 5 games started at a different time.

I dunno, I'm not going to use "West Coast road trip" as an excuse when they played badly in the exact same ways that they did last season. You don't magically unlearn what works just because you change three time zones.

What does last year's team have to do with their performance in January 2025? Different coach, different system, different goalies, and about 1/3 of the team was different players?

Why not compare to earlier this season? The 2024-25 team has the same coach, same system, same goalies, and same players and looked really good for 40 games.

I mean we might as well compare them to the bad habits from the 2010-11 team. That's just about as relevant as what Lindy and Vitek did 16 months ago.

I like how you have switched from Siegenthaler to Dougie. Poor Dougie though

If palat can get a goal like that every 4 or 5 games I will be happy.

I never liked Dougie, to be clear. His memes, funny videos, etc never landed with me because I dislike him that much, it's bad. Again, he's one of the most selfish players I've seen this organization tolerate. I also found great pride clowning the Siegenthaler-Dougie pairing back in 2023. Some people thought they were a championship pairing in 2024? 🤡 I've had to discuss this pairing with free-website-statisticians, and I just gave up.

People forget we were leaking 2 on 1s well before Dougie was hurt in 2024.

On Palat, I totally agree, a few goals fom him are always appreciated. He works too hard for me to 'hate' him, he's The Little Engine That Could.

For me, trying to pin the poorer defensive play on something, and I think it’s just been the team lacking some confidence since the pucks haven’t been going in.

This has caused players to press to generate even more offense, which has caused them to get caught up ice more frequently and then out of position defensively as they try to make a play happen.

Good news from my perspective, it hasn’t been for lack of effort or a bad team philosophy.

I think most of this will sort itself out once the team is feeling confident again. A few wins or some great puck luck will bounce them back mentally.
