I'm not sure, to be honest.

I'd like to say no, but he's not been much better than one for most of this season. He was on a shooting bender early, then a 14 game pointless strak and close to 20 game goalless streak.

I wish he was contributing more offensively, but I've liked Mercer defensively tonight. Several good active stick plays to break up chances or passes.

He has 5 pts in the last 10 and is essentially on a 40 pt pace and is good defensively. Mercer's a perfectly good 3rd liner. The expectations of what he could be and the rest of the bottom 6 being a complete blackhole makes people shit on him more than is deserved.
