The Alex Holtz vs Jack Quinn debate is, in my opinion, one of the biggest failures of modern scouting. There was quite literally not a single aspect of Holtz's game outside of his shot (don't get this confused for goal scoring ability) that said that he would be a good future NHLer. People just saw someone who could shoot really f***ing hard and pretty much ignored every single other red flag about his game that was below average. Jack Quinn is one of the best goal scoring prospects in recent memory and people completely ignored it because he played on the best team in the CHL and because he was old for his draft year. Jack Quinn had Holtz beat in every important category that comes to a hockey player except for having a shot that is slightly less hard, which doesn't make a f***ing difference because Jack Quinn actually has half a brain and knows how to put the puck in the back of the net rather than just being able to shoot really hard. It will forever absolutely baffle me that consensus had Holtz well ahead of Jack Quinn. Didn't make sense then, and still makes no sense now.
Well it doesn’t matter now.

How did our scouts miss that Holtz can’t skate? Seriously.
I dont think anyone missed anything, but the expectation was that he would work on it and it wouldnt be a liability anymore at some point. And he has worked on it, but he's still not quite ready. It might take another summer or he might never be enough of a skater. Its always a guessing game with prospects.

We probably wanted one of Sanderson or Drysdale from that draft and Holtz was just the next best thing. Bunch of centers went after him (which was not a need) and team mustve felt that Askarov at 7 wouldve been too much of a reach. Jack Quinn drafted after Holtz and now doing well for Buffalo was probably heavily scouted since he played for 67s with Bahl, Clarke and Okhotiuk and our scouts probably preferred Holtz over him.

Yup, he still has time. 20 years old.

The power play is pathetic.

Nice shot off the board Graves, both of them.

I hope they were both deflected. Pathetic.

Also carolina fans hate Haula. They put a welcome back Brendan smith thing on the board - not sure why.

Anyway, typical. One of the things plaguing us - early or late goal - strikes again. It’s getting tiresome .
Scouts said Jason Robertson couldn’t skate either, it’s not that simple.
