Eh I don't really pay much attention to a guy smiling, sometimes it's a defense mechanism. Aroldis Chapman pulls this all the time in MLB. But I do give a crap he just wasn't good and can't seem to stay healthy or effective anymore.

6pps in an elimination game, f*** off. I honestly can't think of a Devils team I've disliked more than this one. Nothing pisses me off more than a lazy, slow, stupid, undisciplined team that has no grit. Good riddance.

Fire Fitz, trade all of the dead weight, bring in some smart, fast, hard working players who want to be a part of something special and not just collect a paycheck and be with the boys.

Fitting that the most disappointing player on the team all season ended the season with a double minor in double overtime facing elimination. Also, we wouldn't be here if Markstrom had played anything like what we saw the last 2+ periods in game 4 or when game 5 was 3-0.

Edit: on the plus side, entering the series I thought a 4 or 5 game loss were equally likely and that was before we lost 3 defensemen. So given the roster the team was dressing, I thought they actually exceeded my low expectations. Especially when you consider that Andersen needed a well above average game (for him) to win game 2 and Carolina needed a putrid game from Markstrom in game 4.

Hockey is hilarious though isn’t it? The prevailing wisdom was that our path to success in this series would be an edge in special teams and goaltending because Carolina was the clearly superior team at even strength. It wound up being the exact f***ing opposite.

Might be unpopular, but thank god this season is over. Not sure I wanted to sit through another one of these. Time to regroup and get a team together for next year.

The second period sucked the will out of me to go to Newark on Friday for game 6. Earlier in the day I was looking forward to it even if we got eliminated there. Now I'm just relieved to have my weekend back.

That said, go Devils. Lots of work ahead this offseason.
