They couldn't even enter the ozone lol. Like 75% of the reason for that was really sloppy decision making / passing. Not what the Canes did.
Which is why I have some hope left if it was self induced

But we talking like 2% of hope left lol

Bright side is the shellacking would cause some wholesale changes to the roster which is needed

AGAIN. Why would anyone believe a trade acquisition who has been dealt away 3 or 4 times or more be any different now than they were previously?

Many examples where new scenery changes things.

I don't think he is a savior, I'm just making the original point he noticeably fell off quickly. He had that minor injury earlier but who knows what the deal really is.

Yeah, most of the vets that were brought in were meh at best, if not a complete disaster.

3 years of Palat so far, with 2 more currently to go. 5 years for Palat to (likely) not even have a single 40 point season as a Devil. He may have had he not missed 30 games in 22-23, but even that year he paced for just under it. Paced for about 30 points this year while playing with the two best offensive players on the team.

We're only in year one of Dillon with 2 years left and that's already looking like a bad one.

Haula's first 2 years here were good, but this year wasn't and he's still under contract for next year.
Ya it’s not the smart and efficient way to improve your team. Sure bring some in when it makes sense. But usually you’re paying for goes on their way down the mountain and end up overpaying them based on what they have done rather than what they’re realistically gonna bring to your team.

There were no surprises here today.

Carolina played exactly how we knew they would and took every shot possible to put the puck on net and it paid off. Exactly how they have every game for the past 3 years.

Devils need some different breakout looks and to stop fumbling the puck on the outlet pass opportunity. They played nervous again on the road.

Regular season series the home team won every game iirc. No shock there either they play far better at home.

Steal game 2, don't get behind in the first 5 min and get the puck up ice and carry it in rather than dumping and changing and then HIT THE NET with every shot. I'd be tagging the entire team with an extra lap at practice for every shot wide unforced.

Basic building blocks.

I also feel bad for Tatar after seeing how bad some other guys were. He at least would have been battling where others were puck fishing and coasting.

Agreed on these points, definitely the stop the dump out BS.

Tatar will probably play in for glass injury.

Keefe and Dowling are like Ruff and Brendan smith. I get why Dowling looks enticing on the forecheck, but he sucks everywhere else.

Tatar should be in over him. The skill / puck rush play that Tatar can bring (if he doesn't overplay the puck), is a step or two above Dowling.

Sometimes you have an average season going into the playoffs but, you can match up well against your opponent or ride a hot goalie. Sometimes your still average and are going to get shown the door rather quickly. Hate to say this but, the team that couldn't win 4 straight all year and couldn't beat shit teams recently at home is the same team we watched today and I have no good reason to believe this will change in game 2. Series that are sweeps often have a convincing win like today for Carolina that sets the tone. This isn't two years ago when we lost to a PP and goaltending to go down 2-0? This was an old fashioned ass whopping by our daddy in Carolina.

So with Glass Dillon done, we looking at

Meier Hischier Sprong
Haula Mercer Bratt
Palat Dowling Tatar
Cotter Lazar Bastian

Dumoulin Pesce
Hughes Hamilton
Kovacevic Nemec/Casey

^ Trying to figure who has to play on their off side

Edit: Oh, Dillon not out perhaps?

I'd like to see more high flips out of the zone - the Canes are just too good at controlling the territory around the boards, if the breakout isn't there (and a lot of time it isn't), a high flip can sometimes go for icing, but it can also result in an odd-man rush with a fluky bounce.

Sprong on the 1st line gives me stomach cramps.

You should split up Nico and Bratt but good grief.

At minimum this team needs a top six winger and 3C. Gritsyuk you can probably pencil in for a middle six slot but you still need another guy.

Depth is horrendous and that’s entirely on Fitz.
It’s crazy comparing our depth to other playoff teams. The sens have zetterlund on their 4th line. He’d be pencilled into our top 6.

Have a feeling Dillon will be back by game 3. It looked real bad at first, but then he was able to walk it off.

Glass knee probably wrecked

You are missing Noesen in your lineup.

Id put in Nemec for Dillon. Casey's shot is super enticing when this team needs a quality snipe. Just getting a goal from Casey on the backline could be a massive game changer, but I have a feeling Casey will get destroyed in this series.

Only caught the 3rd due to Easter stuff

It looked ok but god I heard horror stories about the first two periods. Goddamn shame on the injuries. At least markstrom held strong.

Welp, we knew it was gonna take a miracle but hope what I saw in the 3rd and Markstrom carries us in game 2

it was not enjoyable at all... didnt help to be behind the 8 ball on a questionable goal

add in espn for an extra kick to the nuts

? That's what they did, and got nothing out of it

How could I forget the Nose!
