Haven't liked how he has played but keep in mind it is still a small sample....Hopefully he takes advantage of another shot if not I think they will send him down eventually. If that happens I could see him getting disgruntled pretty quick....If it's due to Casey outplaying him he can bi*ch.....
It's really not that small though. His game really started to fall apart in the last third of his rookie season. And a lot of his issues are some of the things identified as a prospect - specifically his poor pinches up ice. And despite piling up points, his defensive play in the AHL really hasn't been all that good.

Hopefully he turns it around, but ice time shouldn't be gifted based on draft pedigree, which is how this feels.

Theres nothing out there that would suggest Simon Nemec has an attitude problem; the interview you are referring to (about a trade request) was asked of him, not brought up on his own

David Jiricek's trade was the reasoning for the question while Simon was in the A. And his response was very grounded where he stated he is willing to work on his game this season but would like a shot at the team next year

Im not sure why some see this as a problem that Simon has. If he chose not to answer then that would also be spun as spurning the reporter

Playing Nemec over Casey feels like intentionally tanking. Maybe Keefe just wants to get Dillon some practice defending odd man rushes.
Casey only played a bit over 9 minutes last game I believe, the Avs were throwing their best players out there whenever he was on the ice. He got pinned a few times, I don't think Keefe trusts fully trusts him yet.

I don't mind Nemec in too much, this should be an easier game to get his feet. Looks like they're giving both of these guys some chances to see who sticks.

Not sure where you are going with the article...Imo he has wanted to be up in NHL since drafted but it has to be earned...I think he struggles with that...This team is trying to win so he has to improve to stay up or go back down and adjust his play and earn his minutes

I made the assumption that your comment about him possibly being disgruntled (if sent down) was referring to the interview asking him about requesting a trade...

otherwise there isnt any evidence about his intentions out there, last I checked. So is this more of a gut feeling of yours? If so thats fine; though a bit unfair to the player Id think

I wouldn’t trust him either, as bad as Nemec has been (and he’s been a bad borderline NHL player this year), Casey is nowhere near NHL ready on D and you can’t keep him on the ice long enough for his offense to be more of a positive than his defense is a negative.

Casey has defended well, he's been hemmed in a few times but that rarely has anything to do with him. And when that happens, he's done a great job protecting the front of the net.

Yeah, he's had some miscues, but nothing too egregious. Nothing like what we've seen from Nemec.

you forgot to crap all over shane doan
I honestly don’t even dislike Shane Doan in the least.

That was all 100% inspired by some mainboard fans who said he was better than Patrik Elias back in 2012.

Good player, great career, just not as good as Patty and never was.

It’s not his fault a bunch of ignorant people on an Internet forum were saying that about him.

Why do you think he consistently gets nine minutes a game from a staff looking to win if he’s that good defensively? Hint, it isn’t cause of his offense.

f*** this team.

They’ve done nothing to help us countless times over the last bit when they’re facing someone we need to lose/get zero points. So just like everybody else that gets points against them at will I expect to do the same.

I honestly hate this franchise (it’s still the same franchise as Arizona, f*** saying anything else) more than the Blue Jackets at this point.

I very sadistically and brutally coldly want to see us stomp this team in tonight like they did to Billy Batts in Goodfellas.

And then ring the score up even more by scoring 2 goals in the final minutes of the game when we’re already up 5-1 or 6-1 and see their dumb bald nobody head coach complain to the media that the game was decided and we didn’t have to do that.

f*** UTAHRIZONA and f*** any team who calls themselves “Hockey Club”.

Piss soaked, shit stain franchise. Since 1979.

We can’t be sure what the coaches are thinking but as others have noted Keefe is still hedging on Casey for whatever reason and is giving both a chance to play. At their ages that’s probably fine for now. Hopefully both play well and earns spot.

Im not sure I can agree with this, nor do I think the coaching staff does

From what Ive read and seen in highlights, it would seem Nemec has stepped his play up since the injury while Casey has stumbled a bit from a very hot start to the year (mostly the AHL)

Neither has been good defensively in the big leagues this year; but that also isnt a big deal considering both are only 21

Im not some big fan of Nemec or Casey, outside of them being spectacular prospects for my favorite team. But it seems Simon has been getting a very unfair shake around these parts from fellow fans, and Im not really sure why...

Because I don't believe coaches are perfect, and have a bias against younger players.

Appeal to authority here isn't a good argument.

Healthy competition… I like em both but neither will change this season dramatically
Competition is great, agreed.

It's both tbh... I think he struggles with not playing in the NHL....That play against the Stars was awful and resulted in a goal against..Needs to put in his bones and earn his playing time...Same as Casey....Hope he gets it and works on his defensive play

You probably do but do you know about what happened with Doans retirement banner?

I badly want the team to win but I’m fully expecting a loss tonight. Utah are playing well their last 10.

I honestly thought that was dicked up of the Coyotes organization to do to him. I’m completely on his side.

Didn’t someone have to rescue it from a dumpster because they dumped it when they were either cleaning out the building of Coyotes stuff or maybe it was a year or two earlier when he left the organization?

There was no need for that. They could have just reached out to him to take it or sent it to him if they were gonna throw it away.

I’m expecting a loss because it’s a HUMPTY team and we don’t consistently beat them the last two months. Montreal are the only one in that span we beat twice.

I’ve been saying since before the trip that we’ll lay an egg against at least one of Nashville or Utah because it’s what we do. And maybe win the other. And win one of the games against the three good teams to go 2-3-0 on the trip.

If Utah are so scary then check out the next three teams on the schedule. Utah is basically Spider Rico (“he’s a BUM!”) while the next three are all Drago’s.

And then there’s Philly who we’ve laid two gigantic eggs to already, despite the blowout shutout win the last time.

Assuming you know better than the coaches - and a lot of other fans who also see that Casey has some work to do - isn't quite the winning argument you think it is.

It's not like when PDB was benching Larsson for Harrold (which in hindsight wasn't the hideous decision most of us thought it was when we pictured Larsson's higher upside) because Harrold was more the veteran D, or when Tedenby was benched for low-upside vet forwards - they're both young guys and he's trying both hoping one figures this **** out before the deadline.

If you want me to go full doomer, the scary part about our stretch since Christmas is that I think we’ve only lost more than 2 in a row in regulation once since it started. And it was at the beginning of the skid that’s lasted 22 games. When we lost 4 in a row to Carolina, Anaheim (LOL) and San Jose (super duper LOL). We lost to Florida and Toronto in OT before two regulation losses in a row to Philly (more LOL) and Ottawa on back to back afternoons at home.

If we don’t win tonight we could really be in for a 4-5 game losing streak, even if there’s some OT losses sprinkled in there.

Nemec has the same PPG in the A as Casey in twelve more games, while getting more of a defensive load as well

I dont pretend to watch the AHL but from those who do, even outside the Devils fandom, have said he has certainly bounced back

Meanwhile Casey started the AHL season with 9 points in 7 consecutive games; thereafter he has 6 points in 15 games. Id also quantify that as a stumbling for a player whos biggest gift is his offensive play
