NEW JERSEY DEVILS (7-4-2) vs. FLAMES (5-4-1)
New Jersey continues its trek through Western Canada, stopping in Calgary on Friday night to face the Flames.

The Devils began their Western Canada road trip with a dominant victory against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night. Captain Nico Hischier continued to ravage his way through the league with his league-leading 10th goal of the season and a three-point night (1g-2a). The Devils are coming off a game where they scored at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded.

While there has been no confirmation of who the starting goaltender will be for New Jersey, this game will mark the first return to Alberta for Markstrom, who spent the past four seasons in a Flames jersey before joining New Jersey after a trade involving defenseman Kevin Bahl and a first round pick. Markstrom posted his first shutout of the season against one of his other former teams, the Canucks, on Wednesday night.

The Flames are in a stretch of four straight losses, the most recent coming against the Utah Hockey Club. They have given up 10 goals in their past two games while managing just a single goal on offense. Their most recent losses are to the Vegas Golden Knights by a 5-0 margin and Utah 5-1. Calgary is 2-2-1 at the Saddledome this season.

Defenseman Rasmus Andersson leads the Flames with 10 points in 10 games (4g-6a).

Just keep up the good games. They’ve played good hockey since the TB game. The western Canada trip is always a hard one. Glad they started it off the right way. Keep it pushing with a good game!

I'm not sure what Nico did in his training however he is more explosive, appears to be a tick faster with his top end speed and his shot is greatly improved. He always had excellent edgework and he just appears to be coming out of his cuts faster.
I always thought Nico had another gear offensively and it’s awesome that he’s found it. Like you said, he does look just a bit quicker and the shot is now a serious weapon. He’s been sniping with tremendous accuracy…often hitting the corners of the net. It isn’t uncommon to see players starting to hit their peak in their age 25/26 season like Nico. He’s taken his game to a whole new level and will have a great chance to finally win the Selke (it’s too bad IMO that offense seems to be factored in to the Selke.)

I think it’s noticeable on TV and I think it’s even more noticeable in person, his first step is much faster. Top speed seems higher too.

I don’t know if he did new training or is the healthiest he has been but his speed threat is a different level so far this year. He was already “good” in that area so this elevates him to a level where it’s hard for a lot of NHL guys to defend.

Bit of a reach with this one..

but could it also be the fact that Ruff's system had the guys running around a bit more than they were used to? Could see that forcing guys to skate a bit more passively to conserve energy during a full or extended shift

I've grown to really love the taste of coffee enough that a coffee stout of any kind, especially around hockey season weather, is my favorite beer to enjoy.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I love coffee and literally drink it all day right until I go to bed. It's just a combo I don't see working for myself.

The right coffee stouts, or any flavored stouts for the matter, don't make it so it tastes like you are drinking the thing on the label. It's there, and makes it better, but it doesn't feel like you are drinking cold frothy coffee. One of my favorite stouts is a s'mores stout I can rarely find, it has the smokiness, the chocolate and vanilla hint and even the oatmeal flavor for the graham crackers. It doesn't straight up taste like you are drinking a blended up s'mores, it just has the perfect amount of each flavor to make you go, "oh shit."

I have had other ones where it tastes like you are drinking exactly what it says, and those are always the worst, it's weird.
