You will really see an analytical heavy lineup with Green as the head coach. He leaned on it heavily in Vancouver. He was also known as a heavy structure guy. I didnt see the 5 on 5 results being inspiring but I’m interested to see what sort of changes he will make.

Look at all the glowing reviews about Green. What could have ever gone wrong with him and Lindy as the top two guys on the staff?

Solid work there Fitz.

I mean, by an analytics perspective … haven’t the devils actually been good since the all star break? The issue is that actual results haven’t lived up to what the analytics say they should. They’ve won the deserve-to-win-o-meter almost every game. Analytics generally assume that unusually low sv% will eventually regress to the mean, unusually low sh% will eventually regress to the mean, that it’s the shot attempts taken and allowed that define a team’s analytical standing…

… and that’s been the Devils’ downfall. Shooting 4.2% in the 8 post all star losses, saving well under .900 … if the coach takes the analytic perspective he’d just call for more of the same and assume the sv% and sh% would regress to league average. When clearly they won’t.

Devils need to get a better goalie. Until then? No matter what coach you have there will be trouble
Yeah.

Ruff's system was great in the 1st half of last season. We shot a lot and allowed very few shots against. That didnt help always, since Mactastic would allow 3 on 10 shots but was the correct strategy, IMO, from overall coaching perspective.

Why did they stray from that plan is beyond me but the result is tangible: Bye Lindy and thanks for the two best sports moments ive ever had (I was at the Rock):

- 2003 appreciation night, seeing Stevens with the cup on ice and beating the shit out of Flyers (6-0 or something, 1st time they ran out of woos graphic)
- G7 2023, no need to elaborate

No hard feelings, it's just business!

His wife liked it too lol

Seems a bit petty, lol.

I mean, Sharangovich wasn't very consistent last year, and he only got demoted to 4th line duties when Timo arrived. Guess there must be something else going on with the coaching style dynamic with Ruff and his players. Rango played like a 3rd liner last year, and no real room to keep him in top 6 last year.

Hey guys - Devils fan coming in peace :) I don't know if you guys have talked about this before, but whats your thoughts on the Devils goaltending this year? I just saw a tweet with some numbers in it, and in my opinion it doesn't look good. That seems like a place the Devils could upgrade, just wanted to point that out.

Would you guys be interested in trading for my team's shitty backup with a .902% and 30 career starts? I think if you guys acquired him you'd be a Cup contender team for sure. We could trade him to you for Jesper Bratt, but since we're taking on salary you'd have to send us your 1st as well to make it even.

By the way, whats the deal with Simon Nemec? I just looked it up, he only has 16 points this year? Seems like a disappointment for a 2nd overall pick, I think he'd really benefit from a change of scenery. Would you take my shitty 3rd liner, a prospect you've never heard of, and a lottery-protected 5th round pick for him? I think that helps both teams.

I think the success of the system changed because we lost speed in the forward group.

Losing Tatar, Sharangovich, and Boqvist lost a lot of speed. Toffoli is slowest I've seen in awhile on this team and Tierney/Nosek have nothing compared to Boqvist in depth speed and overall skating ability. Meier can be fast-ish in bursts, but it's not his standard mode of skating, although his gains in other areas should have balanced that out (injuries probably screwed up his season personally)

We added massive skating in backend with Luke, but lost some defensive poise/size/reach losing Graves, and a great outlet first pass from Severson (Severson was good skater too).

So paining to now look back and see some of the bad luck that drove this season into the ground in general plus moves and coaching and goaltending issues.

And favorite moments at the Rock last season, I would add to you list: game 5 and the whole and even the Toronto goal call back game that broke the streak. Pissed moment but unforgettable environment. There was a 7 goal game or two in there as well. Fun times.

Ruff served his purpose but as with any young team, it’s time to take the next step from developing to a structured system and complete buy-in from all players. I don’t think Green is that guy but it will be taste of what to expect next year, provided the GM hires the right coach.

Of note, I think this could be the change that takes Hischier and Bratt to the next level and gets Mercer back on track. Palat will be good no matter who he plays for.

I get Lindy ultimately benched Shara last year and I’m sure takes the ‘blame’ for that but he also gave Shara his initial chance and he played pretty steadily the first two years
Twitter also only gives a yes/no option with the likes so for all we know the like was intended as “thank you for our time together” or something.

I don't really feel like digging them up, but the long short of it was...

"I'd rather be bad and exciting, than bad an boring. Good coach for development, brutal coach for long term success . His system gets old and eventually is let go on a whimper."

It's played out exactly as they said it would.

It was evident that Lindy was a placeholder when he was hired, this team was never gonna win a Cup with him. It was too damn young in its development to randomly become a contender with a guy who's never won a Cup in all his years in the league. That being said, he served his purpose. He developed Nico (not the hardest job since he played well under Hynes), Jack, Bratt and most of the youth. Now Fitz is on the hot seat to figure out his Cup contending coach/goalie or else he's gone soon as well granted he's done a masterful job on defense.

One thing tha does piss me off related to the GM is the constant word that other metro teams see the flyers as 'vulnerable' (and Elliotte Friedman saying the coaching change is a sign of that being the case). Based on what? They are at least picking up points pretty consistently still, and they have a cushion where thats all they really need to do and they are in. Especially for the devils brass to think/say that is just plain arrogance and fantasy land. And that is the reason you are going to keep Toffoli? Give me a break. Keep dreaming, fitz.

Do you honestly expect them to admit that this season is finished?

Last night before I went to practice I had this strong feeling I'd come home to this news and there it was. Had to make sure it wasn't some Twitter troll f***ing with us but it was straight from the real account. Woohoo.

There was literally nothing malicious in that comment. It was actually self-deprecating. I'm not sure why such a salty response was necessary...

Meh, at the same time, completely unnecessary for someone who is not even a fan of the team to come in here and try to tell a bunch of people who watch this team religiously that it doesn’t matter who the coach is. It’s just an ill-informed take that served no purpose.

Devils up coming schedule.

Complain about goaltending for 6 weeks

Complain about Green for the next 3 or 4 weeks

Complain about what's taking so long to name a new coach for a new for 3 months.

Complain about the new coach choice for another 3 months.

Complain about the new system until December or January.

Then finally complain about random 4th liners... that's always the default.

Eventually we'll come full circle to fire the new coach....like sands through the hourglass....

Opposition fans are allowed to post if they aren’t trolling. An Oilers fan making a comment about the coach - which btw at least a few here agree with - isn’t trolling. But derailing the thread by whining about other fans posting doesn’t help, if you think something’s trolling report it

The one I was responding to wasn't talking about the Coach, though.

It was his 2nd post here about him preaching about his team's goaltending like we care when we have our own issues.

Anyway, I'm done bringing him up.

There are more important things to think about at this point.
