I agree with Palat and believe hes here next season. Haula, though, I think has to be gone because he is struggling to even play at an NHL pace anymore. Im assuming management recognizes this too (as well as Palat playing more of a leadership role with Nico, that alone buys him more time)

Palat still doesn't make sense to me and why I still think he's taking off the regular seasons here. He was legit a good player in the playoffs for us. If he played like that in the regular season, I'd be ok with keeping him since he'd score more by just simply moving his feet

Ehlers strikes me as too similar to what we have in Jesper, akin to @JimEIV 's comments about the lack of ES scoring. Id rather not go that avenue, especially for a guy who plays smaller than his size

Bennett also doesnt score a ton ES, and has health issues, but hed cost less and I think could play psuedo-center with Jack and set PBs. Very hesitant because of his lack of ability to stay healthy, but.. maybe a risk I take.

Then again, we really dont have a bad contract after Dougie Haula Palat; id rather not sign another (and I dont include Timo lol, once hes on PP1 where he belongs we wont be saying that me thinks)

Looks sad. May be Kovy'n'Dilly injuries will take some time for recovery that will make a room for free agent signs. This roster looks depressing to step into the next new season. Roster looks fine but we will be in one injury away from repeating the same stoic style roster building.

Not to bear a deadhorse bit hitting on a draft pick that a forward from the last 3 or 4 drafts would certainly help. Stillman, Salminen, Filmon etc... Way too many busts. Still have hopes for Gritsyuk, Hameenaho & Squires. We Will who we add in the draft this year but they are going to be a few years away anyway.

We can’t extrapolate what we see on the Kraken to what could have happened on the Devils. Just doesn’t make sense to do that. We are a better team than the Kraken.

He would have comfortably slotted Jack and Nico. Him, Mercer, Palat/Noesen is a reasonable third line.

It would be if with Hamilton and Haula gone as well. I don't get into cap talk. I don't want to pretend i'm an expert but in my mind the cap is so maneuverable and easy to get around in todays' NHL I do not even consider it a factor (within reason). The fact that Shea Weber got traded again this past deadline tells us all we need to know about the Salary Cap and all the loop holes. I can promise you if a GM wants someone enough, they can and will figure it out.

IF you want contracts fine:

Ehlers 6 years 6.5 mill NTC
Bennett - 5 years 5.5 mill.

Add 2 or 3 million to these projected contracts and you may still come up short. Nice contracts pre-COVID tho.

I don’t even think he’s a full time center. He has 800+ minutes with Barkov. Great defensive player, but strange to have 2 guys both in the top 3.

Like I said, that makes no difference to me. Any GM who knows how to do the job will find a way to make 2 or 3 mill appear on the cap

And Ehlers isn't getting 3 mill more more then 6.5 mil.
