The PP wasn't an issue. It was 5v5 scoring that was a problem this year.

We were 26th in the league in 5v5 goals for. That's a massive problem. That's not getting solved with a 3rd liner or two.

In 2023 he was 33rd

So the last 4 years have gone
2022 - 29th
2023 - 33rd
2024- 61st
2025 - 135th

We need goals. We have trouble scoring goals...we often go half a game with tons of chances before we score a goal....we can't score at 5v5 and we have a very difficult time in heavy games still. Being 100% honest with you, I see Bratt as the posterboy for a lot of these difficulties.

Bratt had 67 assists on a team devoid of finishing talent. Probably could’ve had 80+ if he wasn’t passing to Palat or Haula all season.

Stop it ...He was passing to Jack all season. No other forward was even close. Haula is at 93 5v5 minutes with Bratt by the way.

If we were to trade for Quinn, we would have to trade a left handed Dman the other way. If it was Nemec plus then we have Both Hughes Borthers Siegenthaler and Dillon.

Casey and Siegenthaler plus a 1st might be the trade. Dillon has a No trade clause and Vancouver would want Siegs instead.

I'd prefer to wait until Quinn is a free agent.

I think if Quinn joins this team, Luke would play RD, like he did in College.

He had 20 assists since Jack went down. That leaves 47 assists for the rest of the season.

I don't think he assisted on all 27 of Jack's goals. But even if he did... that leaves another 20

Essentially 40 of 67 assists could not possibly have been to Jack .

Edit - 16 since went jack went down. So the total drops to 36 out of 67 assists didn't go to jack - and likely more.

Edit 2 - i looked up 3 random games from the first 5 games where he assisted on a goal to Nico, Timo and Seamus Casey. So add that to 38 assists out of 67 he couldn't have assisted on. i'm sure there are more

Look at what Lindell and Luostarinen did for Florida this year. Jarvis and Stankoven for Carolina. Even a Blues team that got reinvigorated with Bolduc, Holloway and Broberg (plus a faster Fowler). Protas, McMichael plus a prime Chychrun and Debois in Washington.

Then look at what Fitz did in consistently adding over the hill guys for three seasons. I love Pesce's game but even he's a risk to look horrible soon enough. Dillon already looked like a 7 before the injury.

The depth and draft f*** ups are THE story. Period.

If you can get something back in return. Even if he's merely a throw in on a bigger deal.

But otherwise, might be worth it to see if he can get back on an upward trajectory.

If we are keeping Mercer, I want him to be stapled to Jack Hughes line. I think that is where we got the best out of Mercer and when they moved Mercer from that line, he has been less effective.

If we are trading Mercer, he is either a throw in to a major Quinn Hughes deal or he gets traded for an older proven talent for a team that needs to rebuild. i.e to Nashville for Ryan O'Rielly.

I haven't been looking at raw totals at all I've been looking solely at 5v5.

He had 29 5v5 assists. 10 were on Jacks goals, 4 are on Nico's goals, 4 on Palat goals, 3 on Luke Hughes and 8 other people with one goal.

The idea he was doing something special with scrubs isn't true

He had 19 first assist- 8 on Jack, 4 on Nico, 2 with Palat,.... Glass, Cotter, Casey, Nemec and Meier each with one

Pesce was maybe our best player all series. Im not worried about him.
