Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - playoff edition

That's a fine opinion.

I think Bratt is a main contributor to the goal scoring problem. Meier too. But not as bad as Bratt.

88 points though not 90.

It doesn't matter if they score or assist, man. It all counts the same, lmao.

People docking him points because the guy was playing with ass cheeks Haula and center Mercer this playoffs lol

Beyond all of the very stupid Jesper Bratt talk, the reason not to trade him is that Bratt gets better every offseason. He works on something deficient in his game and improves it. Chances are this offseason it will be his shooting.

His shot is already good, he does defer a bit too much but once they sort out third linemate for him and Jack they will all eat

He finished 135th in the league in 5v5 goals according to Natural Stat trick.

They weren't that great 5v5 as a whole team this year, a lot of their offense came from shooting benders + the powerplay being elite.

That being said, like I said above, a lot of his low goal totals is him deferring to other guys on this team. If he's assisting or scoring, why should he get dinged in one spot for that is my question?

You don't get Bratt for just production...you get him because he's going drive the game up, take the puck into offensive zone, crash the defense and create tonns of chances(translated into the assist rate because people are scoring from this creativeness)) while being a silent leader on the ice. And he is winning puck battles even against guys like Brady Tkachuk. Without being ugly faced and ugly defensively like Brady.

Not to mention, he had EIGHTY hits. To go along with 80 plus points. The only player in the league to do that. This team would be a complete disaster without Bratt and what he brings.

From an older post of mine:

Would you rather have

Marc Savard (20 goals - 75 assists - 95 points)
or
Simon Gagne (40 goals - 30 assists - 70 points)

?

(rounded out totals from 2006-2007. I picked Savard cause Bratt's stat line made me think of him.)

This sounds more opinionated than factual.

So the onus is on the goaltender with top-5 stats (counting and advanced) outside Goals Against...

but not the team that had:
- 0% Powerplay
- lowest Goals For
- most Shots Against
- six goals against on the PK

Id take a shot in the dark and say the injuries to the team in front of Markstrom, as well as their play, was far more indicative of how the series went

the team scored 4 goals last night and spotted him a 3-0 lead and a 4-3 lead.

yes, I would expect the goalie to hold a f***ing lead.

We need goals. We have trouble scoring goals...we often go half a game with tons of chances before we score a goal....we can't score at 5v5 and we have a very difficult time in heavy games still. Being 100% honest with you, I see Bratt as the posterboy for a lot of these difficulties.

The same team that gave him a 3-0 lead also sat on it and let it become what it did. Markstrom isnt devoid of mistakes, and he had multiple this series. But the blame doesnt rest on him considering his position had the best play and stats of the three groups (F, D, G)

Keefe is smart. I imagine he will do his homework and make system adjustments after learning what did and didnt work this season.

Good health and an actual normal training camp is going to improve the team by itself.

We seem to have this health discussion quite often. It might be time to admit we just are not going to be healthy and usually missing someone important and try to plan for it.

You have a static 23 year old who's played the exact same game for 4+ years, a 6M veteran who has done absolutely nothing for 3 years, the highest paid forward on the team that is sub-60 pts, and we're going after the 88 pt guy who's made every single linemate better since his rookie season.

Max dumb f*** territory.

They came from Jack Hughes and Nico pretty much only.

This is the equivalent of an MLB fan arguing that you rather have power hitters that homer and possibly go 0/4 nightly in the whole lineup than guys who drive in runs via contact and RBI's, hope you realize this argument makes no sense in totality lol

Jesper Bratt has scored 5 on 5 goals at about the same rate as Leon Draisaitl, Bo Horvat, Pavel Buchnevich, and Alex DeBrincat over the last 3 seasons.

No it's not the same at all. It's not even the argument....

Your trying to create a Sophie's choice between an assist and a goal ...not my argument...my position is who gives a shit we don't score enough goals....and Bratt is one of the worst culprits in the top 6.
