You know what's more brutal?Absolutely NOT advocating they trade Bratt for Quinn, but this is undeniably brutal...

Obviously I’m excited at the prospect of potentially ever acquiring Quinn, but I’m not as gung-ho as others are about doing it now or before his contract expires.
The area of least concern is defense. Quinn, while obviously would be the immediate best defenseman and maybe even player in general on the team, would be a luxury acquisition.
If the price is right, sure. But let’s fix the horrendous forward depth and figure out who the starter is beyond next year before actively focusing on acquiring Quinn.
lol, anything else?I can def see fitz getting quinn this summer as his big splash then add another complimentary top 6 forward with some bottom 6'ers to round out the lineup. i think nemec playoff woke the canucks up that the longer they wait they aren't going to get him in a trade for quinn.
if i'm fitz tell the canucks we do a deal this summer or we just wait til ufa and get him for free. devils have all the leverage and power in this
We'd be swapping contracts: Hamilton+ for Quinn. The idea is to move on from Hamilton (or another contract) while adding Quinn. It's not a straight up trade for Quinn.
How long do we give Bratt excuses for not producing in the postseason? Nine points in 18 games isn't gonna cut it, sorry. And Timo woke up late in the series after that controversial call/non-call but why did it even take that to wake him up?
I'm not just looking to bag on the core, and clearly Nico rose above it this year...I'm sick and tired of pretty much everyone in a Devils uniform that isn't Nico or a few defensemen right now and need a break from all these ****sticks.
The price of the contract is not really what I was getting at. Just that I don’t think they should make acquiring him a priority over forward depth this offseason regardless of what happens with Dougie moving or not.
bottom 6 is easy there are always guys out there will they end up producing thats another story. top 6 back up the truck and pay someone whoever he thinks that can be i think the team is a good destination now compared to the past. quinn deal is what it is.lol, anything else?
We'd need to rid ourselves of quite a bit of salary to do everything they need to do.bottom 6 is easy there are always guys out there will they end up producing thats another story. top 6 back up the truck and pay someone whoever he thinks that can be i think the team is a good destination now compared to the past. quinn deal is what it is.
If we use assets to acquire a guy whos rumored to be coming here anyway, id be pretty bothered. Playing hardball and getting him for cheap is one thing. But why wouldnt Vancouver just trade him as a 1-2 year rental instead of to us for pennies?
I think Quinn remains a 2027 UFA target
Got it. I'd rather not win the Stanley Cup next year with Quinn, then not win the Stanley Cup with whatever 3C we acquire. No smarts, just vibes.
Why wait? At the age of 25 Quinn has 3 seasons of 75+ points from the blue line. That’s pretty much the total output of our third line. If we can get him now and somehow move Dougie’s contract, you have to do it. He’s arguably the best defenseman in the league and just happens to have his two baby brothers on the team. If you can get him for Nemec and a couple firsts, do it now. He’s instantly the best player on the team and only god knows what having him here can bring out of his brothers. The price of the contract is not really what I was getting at. While I value the cheaper contract and, naturally, getting a competitor at the level of Quinn earlier is always great; doing so will be cost-prohibitive and its because his rental value will be exceedingly higheri thought that too initially but your going to be getting him for two years on a super cheap contract. i do think his next contract if with us will be somewhat team friendly since he has to keep his brothers on the team too. i dont think many teams will spend much more then us knowing they will lose him eventually too but still the contract is just as sexy to other teams as us so either way i dont think he stays on the canucks

Waiting 2 years from now means you still have Hamilton at $9M and have to resign Nico that offseason. Makes Quinn harder to sign 2 years from now. You get better now by swapping Hamilton with Quinn.
That’s great that you think Quinn = automatic Stanley Cup. So if they acquired him this year, they’d have a clear path to the cup?
A bottom 6 that had Justin Dowling and Nate Bastian as constants in your lineup, Erik Haula as your clear “best” option for a 3rd line center, and Ondrej Palat as a staple in your top 6 has a lot of work to do. I’d much rather focus on that.
Yeah, some of you act like they couldn’t get a lot for Quinn even as a two year rental…even if it’s 100% he’s coming here at the end of two years, that’s still two years where he may well get traded to a competitor and two years where as much as we want to believe it’s 100% he’s coming here there’s always a chance someone makes him a good enough offer to change that plan.If we use assets to acquire a guy whos rumored to be coming here anyway, id be pretty bothered. This will grind the gears of many, but...I think I'd be careful with the thinking that he's just coming here anyway. If they trade Quinn to someone else, two years is a long time for him to be swayed to sign an extension there even at the cost of playing with his brothers in the near future. If he were to get traded to Florida or TB, for example, I'm 100% not putting it past them to be able to convince him to stay lol.
There's a lot of teams that will also pay a shit ton to get Quinn even for just two years. Extended rentals get nice returns still. If i have to pony up something like that for Quinn, I'm fine with doing that, however my preference is that Vancouver keeps him this year and in the last year of his deal (when NJ can extend him) they work out a deal.
IMO, if Quinn wants to come to NJ, you prioritize him over anything else. Acquire elite players - figure everything else out second.

If the Devils have Quinn, I can 100% guarantee they don't go 0 for Infinity with him running the first unit. We lacked mobility on the PP to open up lanes.
This will grind the gears of many, but...
Id sooner just not indulge in the Quinn Hughes, final Exodia piece, adventure; if it means having to get him early or not at all
This is all assuming the price is astronomical, like Nemec+1st++, all the while having to dump Dougie somewhere else and so on.
Id love nothing more than to have the three brothers tear up the league in the Jersey red and black! But Im quite comfortable going with the 'he either comes here cheap next year or as a UFA in 2027, or he spends his time elsewhere' mindset
To clarify my previous point: I’d rather acquire Quinn this offseason even if it’s means we do not win the Cup next year. And yes, I think this team is better with Quinn, Dowling, Lazar than Dumoulin, O’Reilly, and Dowling.
If you get a chance, go look at the UFA market for centers. It’s headlined by Ryan Donato and a bunch of 35 year olds. I was hoping we’d address the 3C situation last offseason with Chandler Stephenson but Fitz decided to do nothing as he saw MM exit halfway thru the season.
