Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - playoff edition

Markstrom cost us the comeback this series when he shit the bed to put us down 0-3, just like Bernier did the same with the boarding major against the Kings.
Can't make stupid mistakes to put team in the hole at beginning of the game.
Unless he’s still playing hurt, Markstrom is f***ing garbage. He was a waste of a trade. .900 for the season, and under that for playoff, can’t stop a beach ball, lets three shots in a row in. Garbage. Retire.

And then you see Blackwood and Wedgewood playing lights out and it makes me cry

It's a dead end, need a new manager.
I think so too.

But we know it's not gonna happen.

He needs to have the best offseason he's had since he's been here.

I'd have a permanent erection if two of Haula, Palat and Hamilton were GONE this offseason.

Nico Daws is not an acceptable backup goalie. He's a number 3 at best. So that needs to be filled.

I could take or leave Mercer too.

We kind of need Hamilton because Gerry Fitzgerald Ford has made the defense not very mobile, but hopefully the Quinn Hughes 2025 dream is a real one and Dougie goes away in that.

Hamilton has to go this offseason, we need some pretty big changes up front. Defense outside Hamilton leaving, I think looks great,
I worry that it's not mobile enough and too many sub-20 point players. But that's the only reason having I could rationalize Dougie staying here.

Casey Nemec and Hughes will all be 20+ point defensmen with proper games and minutes played.
Luke definitely already is, so I wasn't including him.

I still feel like if Quinn to the Devils is a thing that Dougie is gone in that deal.

It's just a question of if it's this year, next year or never.

But if Quinn is never, Dougie will be gone.

Can't stand him or his goofy smiley face in the handshake line.

Nemec proved to me in this playoffs that he should stay

Hamilton is the one that has gotta go. He can't skate and can't hit the net anymore, so what good is he? Especially at that contract.
Not sure Dougie was entirely healthy so wouldn't judge him off of his play in the playoffs, but Nemec's play the last few games is very encouraging.

You can't give up on Nemec. So agree that Dougie needs to go. After his signing bonus is paid out, I think the cash over the last 3 years is something that some teams could be open to trading for. Though Dougie's partial NTC could make it a challenging move.

We need more forwards who can make a play with the puck, I believe NJ over corrected. Cotter was terrible, Haula has stone hands, Mercer can’t pass. Palat was one of the better ones.
Cotter needs to be no higher than the 4th line. Haula I would say the same or traded.

Palat and Mercer need to go.

I'm going to keep saying it until he's gone but Haula is no longer an NHL player. He proved it all year and I had some hope he would step up in the playoffs like he did before. Nope. He was embarrassing and awful. Worse than ever. I can't handle watching him for another game.

Playoffs to me showed alot: Baseline for what I want next season.

xxxxx - Jack - Bratt
Timo - Nico - xxxxxx
Palat - xxxxxx - Grits
Cotter - Glass - Noeson

Luke - Pesce
Siegs - Kovy
Dumo - Nemec
Casey

Markstrom
Daws

Dougie just doesnt have it, if we can only drop 1 big contract between Palat and him, Ill take Dougie to be dealt. Dumo is 100% dependent on the Dillon stuff. Also totally done with Mercer, dont think his contract is even that bad, he just underwhelms me everytime I watch him.

Pls dont force Grits into a top 6 role right away, I doubt hes totally ready.

There are many players that I think need to go, but top of my list is Mercer. Just an absolute play killer that is used as a 2nd liner but is nothing more than a 4th line player. Such a drop off from his rookie season.

That in itself is another problem though...how often HAS he been healthy as a Devil other than his one big season here? It's always some shit year after year with him low-key.

This is what I’d like to see the d-core as going in even though it is unlikely.

Hughes Pesce
Dumoulin Nemec
Siegenthaler Kovacevic

Unfortunately Dillon sucks but is unlikely to be gone and Hamilton also needs to go but may be difficult to get rid of. Someone has to go on the right side.

And despite his solid season I’m not overly confident in Siegenthaler (and Kovacevic to a lesser extent). He just doesn’t make plays and we need our defensemen to make plays and breakout efficiently. But him and Kovacevic probably make a really good shutdown 3rd pair.

I'm gonna bitch about losing Toffoli over and over again. HUGE mistake.

He was slow and kinda old but the guy could finish. Exactly what this team needed and instead we pissed away money on 74 defensemen of questionable talent when we have a decent pipeline.

Pesce was fine. We didn't need him AND Dillon AND Kovacevic
