Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - playoff edition

Ah yeah I could see that - I'd start him off on PP2 and then see how he looks and maybe give him a shot on the top unit if he seems to be feeling it and Dougie keeps struggling.
You realize he's going to also get 8 minutes if he plays right?

By "feeling it" are you suggesting if he has 1 good shift he should be placed onto PP1, (and I'm assuming 1 PP that doesn't score from NJD as well on the other side)

Yeah cause the first two really worked lol

Where do you get these imaginary talking points from? It’s the same system with different players, they SHOULD change it and recognize they don’t have the skill to make the normal system work but looks to me like they haven’t, they just keep trying to overpass and don’t focus enough on getting shots through and traffic in front

Literally won games in 2023 after seismic changes but nah, let's just have our head up our asses lol

Better him than Cholowski

If he looks like he's comfortable and moving the puck well and creating chances. As a coach you need to be able to identify when a player is going.

Anyway, about Quinn.

A lot of this is wishful thinking on my part, but it certainly seems plausible.

I do wonder if Fitz already knows he's acquiring Quinn. You'd have to think he's heard through his brothers that he wants to come here.

If the front office of his current team knows it then you'd have to think the front office of the team his brothers play for knows it.

I'd totally expect that Jack and Luke have at least run the idea by Fitz at least once. What's he gonna do, tell them to STFU because this could be seen as tampering? We'll likely never know and be able to prove it happened, but I'm sure it's been spoken about between Fitz and the two brothers about Quinn's desire to play here/play with them.

Glass isn't going to be too expensive. $2.5 million QO for a true NHL center is, all things considered, affordable.

Whether he's a 3C or a 4C, that's an argument. But we're a team that needs decent NHL centers and he's one. Not going to find one cheaper, and that young.

Glass as 4C I think is perfectly fine. 2 x 2.5

Purely speculative but if Quinn isn't a Devil, is there any situation where it's a fireable offense?

Markstrom cost us the comeback this series when he shit the bed to put us down 0-3, just like Bernier did the same with the boarding major against the Kings.
Can't make stupid mistakes to put team in the hole at beginning of the game.

It is just wild how little offense $13M in Palat, Haula and Mercer gets you. Practically any set of NHL caliber forwards at the same cap hit could've given you similar defensive numbers in Keefe's system and more offense.

That is the ballgame right there and we're still stuck with them next year.

Dont think Mercer is that bad. If he can give us 20 goals / 20 assists for a 40 points season every year with his defensive game and PKing for 4million per - its just whatever.

Good speed, good motor. Theres a good player in there. Palat and Haula on the other hand

Haula I don't mind keeping given he has looked better towards the end of the season and playoffs, but we absolutely need to find a way to get rid of Palat...could have to be a buy-out.

Mercer could be a trade chip, but we already lack depth up front.

Can only speak for myself but I would not give a shit about the Norris or losing out on PP1 time if I could win multiple cups with my brother. That's an unbelievable gift in life.

You can roll Luke and Quinn for 90% of the game and then you have a third pair in Silayev (or whoever)-Kovacevic that is purely shutdown. Seems like a pretty good scenario to me and I really haven't seen a sensible argument for the opposite.

To me it looks like he leaned in and his chin clipped Martinook's elbow - I wonder if that's what led to the jello legs?

That’s definitely a possibility by looking at that photo. Whatever it was it seems like a bit of a freak injury. It didn’t look like the Carolina player threw anything vicious at him. I thought maybe he twisted as he fell but it didn’t look like his fall was all that bad either. Hopefully he has a quick recovery and this ends up as just a bad memory for the big guy.

If Quinn were to be truly available, I don't know how we could pass. Truly a top 2 Dman in the entire league, arguably #1.

Though adding him probably limits Luke's role - can't see him getting onto PP1, but for a playing like Quinn, you do it.

We'd need to move some money out though for sure.
I get the whole nepotism concern but as long as the situation can remain positive for both the team and all three brothers I would love to see Quinn come here. I think for a lot of us fans it almost seems like it’s destiny for him to come here. 😁
