Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - playoff edition

Nah, miss me with that nonsense. You can't criticize certain things on here until enough people finally come to the same realization. Doesn't matter how well thought out or researched your view is, the stats/metrics you offer as support, etc. But that's just how fan message boards are to a degree....again, somewhat understandably so due to human nature.

Inverse works too: fanbases all have their approved whipping boys.

Directly calling a post addressed to you as “nonsense” is part of the problem. You can just say you disagree. How much incentive is there to discuss something constructively once it’s been labeled nonsense? It may not be your intent but it comes across as insulting.

Why does this only apply to people who criticize the team? I see people dismiss so-called “negative” opinions with descriptors like “nonsense” all the time. FFS we have posters here that tell people with a different outlook on the team that they aren’t even real fans and that said posters want the team to be bad.

Idk if it came from reddit or tik tok or where, but "miss me" seems like some new thing and I don't think I've ever hated a trend so quickly, besides maybe planking, but that's it.

The same league that has Erik Haula and Curtis Lazar? I'm not worried about xG, and the Kraken suck.

Jack-Nico-Stephenson-Haula is the deepest at center this team could have been in 15 years. Unless you think Zajac-Henrique-Zubrus from 2012 is better....

With a better GM, we can win the cup in two years.
Man. Yeah. He is literally the worst. like... THE WORST. Seattle sucks for a reason and Stephenson is a part of it. At least he is the worst part of it.
Im all in to find better third line center, but its not Stephenson. He wasnt when he signed that deal. He was a bad part of Vegas if we are talking about 2 way 60 min game. He is productive now(part of it because he has ice time) but he is pain in one place for his partners. We should find better player.

We will not win the cup with better gm, we will win it with better roster. No matter who will make it happen - better or worser gm. Fitz did great with defense, Fitz did bad with offense. I dont think he will be fired this summer - will see how he will fix offensive issues. In the same time I dont think that owners are tolerant enough to live with no play off or first round exit next year. So Fitz is def-ly in the situation where he will make this team better in one year or will taste the market. If you think that Devils should win their cup in three years(after 2023) - no they dont. Colorado didnt in three four years with Mac, Oilers didnt with MacD and they took time to taste SCF after their first try in play off, Kucherov and Stamkos took time to win SC after their loss in SCF etc.

All we know - they s-ck now. But they do it because of no forward depth and huge injuries. They are gaining experience now. Will see how it will goes this summer.

They have zero foundational pieces until a player steps up and proves he is so.

Quinn doesn’t solve this just like he didn’t in VAN.

The core is nothing. They are nice good players. That’s it. Not real threats, not elite players. They’re just nice. That’s it.

This team is going nowhere until either someone grows into that guy or they get new players.

And furthermore this organization will never progress until they figure out how to compete on the same level as Carolina. Who by the way hasn’t even won a cup with this current iteration.

Sickening that people are saying we need to improve the bottom 6, just another top 6 winger or center away, we’re almost there!
WE AREN'T EVEN CLOSE
not even sure how you're even supposed to debate someone that says that bringing in a Norris trophy winner wouldn't make a difference lol

like I said, you should probably follow a different team. Nico, the Hughes bros and Bratt are going nowhere. No point in getting pissy about it IMO.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Raising the discourse all around would be great. No one should be insulted.

Leafs current assistant GM and former Canucks executive was on a Canucks podcast and talked to them about Rutherfords comments.

He said NJ absolutely has the piece to do a trade for Quinn. Wouldn't be shocked if NJ calls and asks what it will take to get it done. Doesn't think anything will happen any time soon. Also said no shot the Devils ever give up Luke and Jack especially when Quinn can walk to F/A and they can just get the third brother lol.

“With a better GM, we can win the cup in two years.“

You really underestimate how hard it is to win a Cup.

Yeah but sometimes a GM change can help - Pittsburgh being exhibit A after Shero (RIP) ran his course then the most overrated GM in history dropped in, made some moves around the margins and somehow won back to back Cups

I’m not defending Fitz when I push back on the idea that he robbed us of a Cup.

At this point it's like Shero purging Cory Schnieder post-2019, the sad inevitable finally coming to pass
I have always said that not getting rid of Schneider after 2019 had a heavy hand in Shero's demise. Along with Hynes being needlessly kept on machines for about 6 or 7 weeks early that year. I couldn't have been the only person who could have seen how Schneider in 2019-2020 was going to go.

And I'd also say his go for broke Summer of Shero only for the team to be a disaster really nuked him.

But I will say this, if he bought out Cory in 2019 instead of 2020 (when Tom bought him out) we would have had his $2 million buyout hit still on our books this season.

LOL I forgot it took that long, since Cory was in the minors most of that last season I think...but in fairness to Shero, Cory had two seasons left on his deal when he was finally bought out just like Palat now. It would have been pretty hard to buy him out and have a six-year cap retention hit before that.

In relation to that, I think having Palat here next season could possibly spell a similar result for the current GM as keeping Cory around in 2019-2020 did for the last GM.

Palat and Haula are like those old clunkers you got out back. You're paying a bunch of money to keep them maintained and insured when you should just be sending them to the scrap yard and getting $1000-$1200 for the both of them.

Like a 1991 Ford Tempo and a 1991 Chevy Caprice.

And then last year you just got a 1990 Silverado with a rod knock and blown head gasket. And then it just caught on fire the other night after it was struck by lightning. That's Brendan Dillon.

The old clunker out back you want to shoot it and put it out of its misery.

I’ll take things My3Sons wife says about him for $800 Ken

I can stomach Haula for another year at his number. Palat must go though. It’s time to spend time with the family, it’s over.
