Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - playoff edition

I don’t know how realistic a Quinn trade is this summer, but we know Fitz is pretty aggressive with big name players, and with what happened today… I think he makes a pretty appealing offer this summer.
Nico, Jack, Jesper and Luke are untouchable. Any other player can be in the mix. And Devils will win this trade. I don't think that there are a lot of gms who is really ready to offer more for two years only.

Nemec... plus what else could we throw in? God our cupboard is so dry. His trade value is reduced with these comments. I'm sure GMs already knew that Quinn would want to play with Jack and Luke, but now it's out there. Who is going to pay a lot? Nemec is worth it, but maybe add Vilen and a pick

Pretty much my untouchables list.

Remember - we weren't looking for Quinn Hughes before today. He wasn't necessarily in our plans. And he still might not be in our plans.

The other 2 guys i'd rather not trade, but I guess i would, our two Russians! Silayev and Yegorov. I guess I'd give up Silayev... Yegorov i think we need to keep. But I deal them if that's the ask.

I'd add Casey. IF somehow we can get Hamilton over there that would be great.

If there’s a way to deal for Quinn Hughes that doesn’t involve either of our promising young Russians, I’d be super happy. Would Mercer, Nemec or Casey and a 1st be enough? Who knows what the ‘Nucks perception of these guys is.

I read a great point from a poster(s) earlier. We really do need help in our transition game. I think some of us have overlooked this (I know I have) due to other glaring team weaknesses. Say what you want about flawed players in Severson and Marino but both were terrific on breakout passes. I remember many beautiful stretch passes that led to goals. We have more defensive defensemen on the blueline than guys who excel on the breakout. Quinn would help here and in so many other facets of the game.

You don't split hairs over the cost of acquiring a player like Quinn, you win any trade by virtue of him being undoubtedly the best player in it.

Yes we have other holes to address, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth if Vancouver seriously considers trading him before he hits UFA.

Mercer + Silayev + Nemec/Casey + a future 1st and something to balance out the cap (Palat/Dillon etc).

You can always find depth forwards, you cannot always find a Quinn Hughes.
That’s a huge overpay the devils hold all the cards why would you give them all that.

We would almost assuredly have to dump Hamilton’s 9m contract to bring Quinn in, no? Yes, the salary cap is going up but Luke needs an extension and there’s lots of work to be done/$ to be spent with an overhaul of the forward group.

this Quinn to NJ thing is insane.

I think it would take Bratt tbh. Bratt + Nemec for Quinn as a start.
I don't think the Canucks have the leverage to make any kind of demands. They'll get Hamilton/Siegenthaler, Silayev and a pick or two and be content.

That interview murdered all leverage they had. Or Jersey can just wait for him to hit the market and pay nothing lol. I'd personally just pay nickles on the dollar and get him a year sooner, but that's me.

It's an inevitability.

Iinstead, let's pull the ol' switcheroo and send the Canucks Jack and Luke.

Take back Demko, EP ($2M retained), Suter, and their next 2 unprotected firsts.

They already planted those seeds. There's 2 scenarios at play here:

Option A: Vancouver does business as usual this summer and tries to show Quinn that they're serious with him as a team, make the comparison of the 2019 Devils offseason where the Devils went all in to show Taylor Hall that they wanted to sign him long term, Petterson rebounds and they're a legit good team like they were in 23-24 and he re-signs somewhat long term like his past deal while keeping the door open for the brothers to keep the playing dream on hold for a few years.

Option B: They fully implode next year, management has to save face and trade him to a contender in 2027 before his UFA and they get boat raced in a package since everyone in league circles knows he's headed to NJ.

All this is dependent on Elias Petterson the most. If you're a Devils fan, you're hoping he has a mediocre year once again and the Canucks miss the playoffs.
That Canucks team isn’t going anywhere in the west with Dallas Colorado Vegas Edmonton kings jets all better then them and all cup contenders. Sell off tank and rebuild when the balance of power shifts back east and the west is weaker

It’s like when parise left he went to the wild at the height of the kings and hawks dominance in that conference and got left holding the bag

it's unsettling how good Quinn Hughes was against us last month.
You know I joked at the time that they will run him into the ground before he hits ufa and thinking now that’s def going to be the case like having a running back have 350 touches in multiple seasons the next team signs him and he’s beat

Twitter Canucks fans are legit talking themselves into the idea that they can somehow trade for both Luke and Jack.

Some dumb proposals floating around
